Today marks the deadline for teams to submit their initial spring training player pools, which can comprise up to 60 players. Players are not eligible to participate in either a spring training or regular season game until they are included in the pool. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit. However, players removed from a team’s 60-man (for reasons unrelated to injury, suspension, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations via trade or waivers.
Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.

Wow, Hassell being included in insane. I get he won’t make the team but it’s crazy to see him on this list. Hope the padres allow Gore to pitch this year
I was quite surprised to see Hassell III on the list as well. Other than him tough, no real surprises. I hope Webster never has to be called upon to do anything thing other than catch bullpens this “Summer Training”.
That’s really so they can play, my understanding no minor league games
Keep in mind that any player not on the 60 man list that is not on a major league contract is now a minor league free agent.
@PF not sure that that’s true but if it is, all the more reason for them to add Dozier over Profar.
I like seeing Abrams, Trammel and Campasano on there.
No guarantee that any of them see the field but all of the Padres top 13 prospects are included here plus Hassell
I hope to see the youth movement continue.
Also, where is Jason Vosler? How is he not on here?
I guess that this is what you have to do to get any of your minor leaguers any playing time or experience this year. I don’t see them starting any of their prospects major league clocks going except possibly Trammell, and probably not even him.
26-34
What happened to Dozier?
Great question! He’s on a Minor League deal, maybe they’re working on a new one? There’s room still.
Good question. I was under the impression that he and Garcia were going to platoon at 2B.
Dozier is likely to be added.
As is Wilcox when he signs
8 open spots and not much reason to not fill the entire 60 so……
What’s the hold-up on Wilcox? Just offer him that full $3,327,696 and tell him “We’re not giving up our 2021 first rounder. This is the most we can give you. Take it or leave it.”
8 spots left. Dozier, Almonte, Lagares, Vosler, hopefully Wilcox… leaves 3…
Yes – where is Dozier?
Maybe not making Roster.
Guys, this is only 52 players. They still have to add 8 more to hit the 60 mark. Non-roster players like Dozier & probably Lagares will be added soon.
Maybe Abraham Almonte, too?! These 3 deserve 60-man spots imo.
This could be true for a lot of players but I belive Tatis could put up crazy numbers in this abbreviated season. He’s ridiculously explosive and could make a run at the MVP in what should be a weird, wild season.
If he can stay off the IL
