Latest On Domingo German

By Jeff Todd | July 18, 2020 at 6:22pm CDT

TODAY: German clarified his position another Instagram post, saying that “Baseball is my life, and I am not walking away” from the sport.  German apologized for his original “unsettling post,” saying that “not being ready with my teammates while they get ready for the season, knowing that I have let them down, has taken a toll on me and last night I let my emotions get the best of me.”

JULY 17: Yankees pitcher Domingo German has stated his intention to leave the sport in a series of posts on his Instagram page. “Me fui del baseball,” he wrote in an apparent indication of retirement.

German, who’ll soon turn 28, is still serving the remainder of an 81-game suspension for a violation of the league’s domestic violence policy. He would not have been able to complete the suspension in time to pitch in the regular season in 2020, though he’d have technically been eligible for postseason play having already been sidelined for the 2019 playoffs.

It’s not clear what specifically prompted German’s evident decision. Neither is it known whether there’s any chance of a change of heart. Presumably, he’ll continue to serve out the remainder of the suspension while residing on the restricted list. Barring some roster decision by the team, the door will theoretically remain open for a return to the sport.

German has just over two years of MLB service at the moment. If he finished his suspension and pitched in the majors for all of the 2021 season, he would be able to reach a full third year of service and qualify for arbitration. Through 243 career innings, German carries a 4.52 ERA with 10.1 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9.

I didn’t offer a direct translation quote, since I don’t like to put words in peoples’ mouths, but made clear in the two opening sentences what it said.

Jeff, I appreciate your articles along with all the other contributors this site. At times like these, it seems some consumers of the (FREE!) site yearn to be negative and don’t even feign at thoughtful sensitivities. It’s easier to be impulsive with ill-conceived critiques.

Terribly written because you don’t give an exact translation and the headline gives us no idea what the article is about. “An apparent indication of baseball” is incredibly vague. For all I know the translation is “I’m tired of baseball” and he might have just been having a bad day and everyone jumped to conclusions.

Headline should have been “Domingo German seemingly announces retirement from baseball” or something like that.

The article should have provided an exact translation to let readers determine its intent for themselves, due to the uncertainty surrounding his post.

That’s not putting words in his mouth, it’s good journalism.

Google translate isn’t a reliable tool. It isn’t a good idea for a journalist to rely on it. Just google “google translate fails”

If you don’t speak Spanish then it seems like a good idea not to include a half assed translation in your work

          @Wiffleball:

You are completely wrong. There’s no such thing as an ‘exact translation’ of anything. Language is far too complex to offer ‘direct translations’. Writers–specifically journalists–know this. If Jeff were to translate German’s words, he would indeed be putting words in his mouth because he would be interpreting what German was trying to say.

Language is never a 1:1 thing. In addition to specific word meanings, there’s context, tone, emotion, idioms, etc to consider.

Can’t believe this needs to be explained. Y’all are really complaining that Jeff didn’t run German’s words through Google Translate and present that, and you’re calling *that* journalism. Journalism is what Jeff did: present German’s exact words and offer his interpretation.

Judging someone for a crime that they committed and holding them responsible when they were the ones who “cast the first stone” through domestic violence. If he would have came back he would have been welcomed but always had this negative in his history. But it is fair that many people will not miss him and fairly so.

I agree with your assessment that nobody is perfect, but domestic violence, or any violent crime, is not equal to other sin, hence the harsh punishment. My point – it is perfectly acceptable for people to hold an opinion about what he has done because most people have never done that and consider that abhorrent. If they tried to stone him, I’d be on your side.

I am surprised that German and his agent did not push for a pro rated reduction in his suspension. They could have made a case for 63 games to be cut by at least half in light of the short season.

hockeyjohn, just wanting Frankie Lindor now. Not wanting Clevinger anymore. I can give you 3 or 4 players for Lindor. Unfortunately Gleyber can’t be one of them. Not sure why the Indians couldn’t move Frazier, Andujar, Deivi Garcia, Mike King, & Estrada or Wade in other trades if they were to fall out of contention. If the Tribe is a playoff team just stand pat then

Cegmyster, Lindor is the best SS and one of the top 10 players in mlb. For him you offer 2-DHs and 3 nobodys.? Why would the Indians do that?

Only 1 of Andujar and Frazier can play DH at one time. Ramirez would start over Andujar at 3B. Is Frazier better than their correct corner OFs? Ehhhhh…maybe? But with his defense probably not. Would Garcia make their 5-man rotation? No. So overall the Indians are getting 1-ok DH, 1-bench piece and a couple of MAYBE decent relievers for a top overall player. Would you make that trade if you were the Indians?

My guess is he’ll pretty quickly change his mind when he realizes he has no other way to make as much $ as he could playing baseball. Even if he’s the most hated guy in the league… not coming back and trying to get his career back on track – even just long enough to collect a significant payday through arbitration – would be asinine. Believe me I don’t particularly want him back in baseball — anyone who gets suspended for 81 games for domestic abuse probably isn’t a good person. But I also believe in second chances so if he were to actually get his life in order… I do think he deserves another chance just as much as the next guy. But posting “goodbye baseball messages” on social media is probably an indication that he isn’t really getting his life together

Cegmyster, I have been an Indian fan since 1965 when I was 7 years old. I consider myself extremely educated on the Indians and how their front office operates. The Cleveland Front Office has stated many times they plan to stay competitive and are not looking to enter a rebuild. They can not spend like the Dodgers, Yankees, and the like so they have to build their organization very carefully. I would think that any Lindor trade would have to be similar to the Trevor Bauer trade from the 2019 trade deadline. In that trade, the Indians receive temporary help with Puig, a controllable MLB ready piece, IN A POSITION OF NEED like Framil Reyes and a package of prospects. The Bauer trade help was designed to help now, and into the future. That is the type of trade that the Indians would look for Francisco Lindor. The Dodgers had tremendous prospects to offer, but they would not include the controllable MLB piece in a position of need so no deal was made. Clevinger’s name came up in the Dodger trade discussions, but they still would not include Gavin Lux so no trade was made. The Angels inquired on Clevinger and the Indians ask was their top prosect Joe Adell, at top 5 prospect in baseball who should debut sometime this season. Cleveland’s front office is known to set their price and not vary from it. I don’t see the Indians moving Lindor until after the 2020 season. I don’t have a grasp on what they will do then as Covid -19 had impacted every major league team.

Also, I have heard the hockey comments many times on here at least 100 times.

I hope that lets you know about me and how my comments are arrived at. Have a wonderful evening.

Also, with the German news and Tanaka and Paxton being free agents at the end of 2020, the Yankees can not afford to trade any of their prospect pitchers.

I’m actually leaning towards that he’s leaving the Yankees. Two hours ago, he still had all of his old Instagram photos up. Now it’s all gone except his two most recent posts. The kind of stuff people do on social when they break up with an ex.

Why don’t you try using Google translate? English is not the only language in the world, just because it’s the only one you’re capable of speaking.

But, since you’re too lazy to use Google translate but have plenty of time to type your comment, I’ll help ya out. My Spanish ain’t perfect, but it means, roughly, maybe exactly, “I left baseball”, which is weird because there’s an actual Spanish word for baseball – beisbol – and I don’t know he would use the English word in a Spanish sentence….

If this is true, then the Yankees are only guaranteed to have one quality starting pitcher coming back in 2021 (Cole). Severino won’t be healthy enough to start the season while Happ, Tanaka and Paxton will all be free agents. Montgomery is coming back too but he’s going to have to prove that he can be a dependable, quality starter this year before penciling him into the 2021 rotation. While German is a scum bag, this decision definitely hurts the Yankees pitching depth for 2021. Unless they want to completely blow past the CBT threshold and forfeit draft picks, the Yankees are going to have to get very creative to put together a formidable pitching rotation for 2021. They’d better win it all this year!

You make it sound like Tanaka and Pax are out there pitching for free, or whatever.

They come off the books. As does Ellsbury (& *what* exactly is going on with *that*!?).

Yanks have shown they’ll spend towards the upper limit of the CBT. Tanaka – I’d bet – will be back. Probably at a lower AAV, as well. Sevi be back midseason. Good chance Happ’s 17 mil goes away, too.

With all the nice pitching prospects we’ve hoarded I’d guess that the Yanks’ll only “need” to sign one more SP. A guy like Stroman. I’d love to see them sign Bauer but mostly just to see a certain segment of Yankees fans heads explode.

I’m sorry to break the news to you but our starting staff is going to be just fine. I can – however – think of some other teams in the AL East that are going to have real, actual problems not tossing BP to the Yankees on a nightly basis.

      Uh?

Yeah for someone to say “they better win it all this year” either doesn’t know the Yankees or is a wishful thinking Red Sox fan. The Yankees always manage to put together a team that can compete. With cole and severino as the 1-2 next year they really don’t need a stud. Besides with the way this year is I’m doubtful there are going to be a lot of big/long term contracts this offseason. If ever there were a year where you can probably get a guy on a 1-2 yr deal this is probably it.

I bet they resign Paxton or Tanaka anyway and that should be enough to get them to the playoffs. The orioles are far from competing and the Red Sox have so little pitching they look a solid 2 years away from really competing. The jays look like they could be really good but they need their young talent to work out and stay healthy and the rays are always strong but lacking money. Hard to imagine how the Yankees aren’t at least competing in that division next year and then anything can happen if they make the playoffs…

The issue is this. Right now, the Yankees have $135M in guarantees for 2021. (3) major players are going to arbitration next year in Aaron Judge ($8.5M-2020), Gary Sanchez ($5M-2020) and Gleyber Torres ($675K). Being conservative, these 3 salaries will increase by $20M next year collectively, so that bumps their payroll up to $155M. They are losing 3 starting pitchers, DJL, Gardy and 2-3 bullpen pitchers to free agency next year as well, while the CBT threshold will not increase for 2021. So the Yankees either need to say “F” it and blow past the CBT again, making them 3 time offenders or they will need to get very creative with their pitching staff. Adding Strohman alone will cost close to $25M/yr and they’ll still have 6-7 important slots to fill in their rotation, bullpen and infield.

I’m guessing they will say “F” it a blow past the $208M number, as they have to feel like this is their best window to contend. Stanton becomes an albatross contract by 2023, Judge will be 30 years old, Sanchez might have to move to DH or 1B, so they really need to go for it now.

I personally think the Yankees are crazy to even think about the tax with their revenue. Any money they lose in tax payouts more than pay for itself with a WS ring. But even without tax considerations the base of the team is there to be perfectly solid for the next several seasons. With cole and severino they have a great 1-2 with a few young guys in the minors who have a lot of upside to round out the back end of the rotation. I don’t think they need a stud this offseason, they need a good #3 who can be a workhorse and keep them in the game. The payouts this offseason are predicted to be less and I don’t think that will be too hard to find for a reasonable price. Even if they go cheap, I still maintain it’s hard to see them not completing in that division for the next few years. Not with the amount of work the orioles and Sox have to do

They’ve got a lot of guys 25-28 at the big league level that are solid players. They probably have a three or four year window with those players to do something. Alonso will be 26 this year, McNeil is 28, Rosario will be 25, and Nimmo and Conforto are both 27.

Clarke Schmidt is the 31st best pitching prospect in the game, Deivi Garcia is 33rd. That means there are at least 30 pitching prospects better than both of them Ultimately, that means that chances are heavily against either one making an impact at the major league level. Let’s not get carried away. It’s not like they are the Tigers with the #2, #10 and #16 pitching prospects in the game. They are maybe, MAYBE average.

They do have money to spend coming out of their ears though.

Prospect ranking don’t mean squat. The number one ranked prospect can just as easily fail as someone not even ranked can become an all-star. Rankings don’t guarantee anything.

Jesus Montero was a three time top ten prospect, how’d his career turn out?

The highest ranking Pete Alonso got was 40th, how’d he do last season?

There’s thousands of examples that go against what you said.

Quite right Briffle. Think about that for a second. Higher ranked prospects are ranked more highly because they either have higher upside or are seen as more likely to become successful Major Leaguers. Therefore, counting on ANYTHING from prospects ranked in the lower end of the top 100 is just wishful thinking. Scott Burgos was bragging about Schmidt and Garcia. I was pointing out that counting on those guys is folly. Thank you for agreeing with me!

@denistaylor – What are you talking about? The guy was suspended for 81 games and he needs to serve all 81 games no matter how many are played each year.

Cora and the rest of the Houston coaches and FO were suspended for the entire 2020 season including the playoffs. There were no caps on number of games; it was the entire 2020 season. So I don’t see anything unfair or unjust here. You do the crime, you serve the time. None of the active MLB players were paid for the cancelled games in 2020, so German needs to sit (and not get paid) for a full 81 games, no matter how many calendar years that spans.

While I highly doubt the Yankees would entertain it, at least German could pitch in the 2020 playoffs if they so desired.

In order to be successful with that second chance, positive changes need to be made and I’m worried that German has a long ways to go in that department given his recent erratic behavior. The Yankees need to take these issues seriously and make sure he has the support and guidance he needs in order to earn that second chance and change his life for the better.

Where does the $100M come from? They are committed to $135M for 2021 already against a CBT of $208M. Then with arbitration raises to Judge, Sanchez & Torres, that adds at least $20M to their salary totals. This gets them to $155M+ before adding or resigning anyone. That’s $53M available to spend if they want to reset their CBT.

I’m guessing they will not try to reset, but they will definitely do all they can to stay below the $240M threshold where they lose draft picks and pay a 75%+ tax on CBT overages. So that leaves them with a range of $53M – $84M to spend in 2021. Certainly a decent chunk of change, but not enough to trade for (and sign) Lindor, add another $25M+ pitcher, resign DJL and fill the rest of their openings. Also, Andujar hits arbitration in 2022 (if not 2021) and Torres, Sanchez & Judge will get much more expensive in 2022 arbitration as well. I agree the Yankees will stay competitive over the next 3-4 years but they do have payroll constraints that will prevent them from creating a super team.

I’m using ~ 150 mil for next year salary commitments.
The Yanks seem to really only be concerned – at this point in time – with staying below the 3rd CBT threshold.

If you don’t care for 100 mil then how about I amend that to 90+ mil? From the understanding I’ve gotten here *all* teams will be resetting their penalties. Well, those that are in the penalty range.

With the new CBA coming (& probable substantial CBT increases) the Yankees have no reason to not spend, spend, spend! One reliever, one infielder, and a couple starting pitchers won’t be onerous at all.

On guys making more in arbitration the Yankees have shown a recent inclination to extend their own players. I know this is probably Bad News for you? But the Yanks are simply not going anywhere for the next several seasons.

It is what it is as the wise man said.

@Ducky – My original post disappeared on me so sorry if some of this is a repeat of what I just said, but I did a little research on the Yankees arbitration situation and it is much more complex than I thought it was. As I stated above, the Yankees are committed to $135M in payroll obligations for 2021. They also have a MASSIVE number of players who are eligible for arbitration and will get sizable raises. Look at this list:

Arb 2 Players: Aaron Judge ($8.5M), Gary Sanchez: ($5M). Jordan Montgomery ($805K) You can easily see Judge getting a $10M raise and Sanchez $5M. Monty is a wild card. If he’ll stays healthy and pitches well, he could get bumped up to $6M-$8M+ as well. Let’s call it a round $20M for this group.

Arb 1 Players: Gleyber Torres ($675K), Andujar ($632K), Luke Voit ($634K), Gio Urshela ($2.5M), Clint Frazier ($588K). Between Torres, Andujar & Voit alone, that’s another $18M+ in raises, if not way more. Mookie got $10M in his first year of arbitration and he’s a good comp for Torres. Then Voit, Urshela & Frazier should get at least $7M between them, for a total of $25M for the Arb 1 group.

Other lesser Arb eligible players include: Kahnle, Chad Green, Lyons, Holder & Heller. Let’s say they get a total of $5M between them.

That totals $50M in arbitration raises in 2021 and bumps their salaries up from $135M to $185M without adding a single new player! While I highly doubt the Yankees will try to get below the $208M CBT in 2021, they will do all they can to stay below the maximum threshold of $240M where they lose draft picks and are taxed up to 100% of salary overages. So assuming they resign all of their arbitration players, they will have between $23M – $55M to spend if they want to stay below $240M in payroll. Maybe they can sign a Strohman or resign Tanaka or Paxton, but there’s no way they’ll be able to resign multiple $20M starting pitchers and like some people say on this board, trade for and pay Lindor from Cleveland. I’d say this is rather sobering news, wouldn’t you? They will still be a great team but they have some tough decisions coming up about payroll and free agents. That’s to be expected when you pay 2 players close to $70M a year to play for your team (Cole & Stanton).

Sorry for so many posts on this subject but I just hit the floor when I did some more research on the Yankees payroll situation for 2021. Using SportsTrac, it states that the CBT commitments for the Yankees next year total $130M. However, this number only includes guaranteed contracts, so the $130M only includes 8 players! (Cole, Stanton, Britton, Hicks, Severino, Chapman, Ottavino, Gardner). Since the rest of their players are either ARB eligible (Judge, Torres, Andujar, etc) or free agents like DJ, their salaries count as $0 here. This absolutely floored me! I thought the $130M included current salaries for Judge and everyone else but it does not! The Yankees are in a world of hurt next year when it comes to payroll. They will have to go to $275M+ if they want to keep their core players and sign a couple of good starters. Here’s how the $130M breaks down from a CBT perspective:

          Cole – $36M
          Stanton – $22M
          Chapman – $17.5M
          Britton – $13M
          Severino – $10M
          Hicks – $10M
          Gardner – $12.5M (option)
          Ottavino – $9M

How are they going to pay Torres, Andujar, Judge, Sanchez, Voit, Montgomery, and the rest of the arbitration eligible players (and tendered players) and try to add free agents with blowing way past the $240M highest CBT number? There’s no way they will be able to. Wow, this was much worse than I originally thought it was. I’m guessing the Yankees payroll next year will approach $275M when it’s all said and done! Last post on this subject matter, I promise.

          Holy fu-…@mantooth

What an awesome, detailed, & highly nuanced response. This is amazing. I took a screenshot of it for future reference!

          Yeah.
You are correct. It’s *not* as much as I was thinking (was using a quick & dirty figure of ~ 150 mil for committed payroll & ~ 250 mil for staying under the top tier).

          Definitely shy of that.

          But.
What will the Yanks really “need” this off-season? I’d say at least one – but probably two- starters, probably an infielder (hoping to resign DJ) & probably a reliever to replace Ottavino.

          Small shopping list, serious.

As a fan I feel a sense of urgency every season. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Cashman, Hal, et al do not.
They just want a seat at the craps table every fall.

I *still* asset that we’re in very good shape to do this for several seasons out.

Thanks again for the great work and effort in your response.

      Yankee 2021 rotation:
      Gerrit Cole
      John Paxton
      Masahiro Tanaka
      Jordan Montgomery
Domingo German/ Luis Severino (Tommy John)

With that rotation we really don’t need Mike Clevinger anyway. Maybe we just trade for Frankie Lindor instead?

How will the Yankees acquire Clevinger? It would cost them at least their top 3 prospects (one of whom is Schmidt), along with Andujar, and I’m still not sure Cleveland would agree to that deal. It’s too soon to know if Jasson Dominguez is the real deal or not, but if Cleveland likes him, he’ll have to be included. Perhaps a package of Schmidt, Dominguez, Garcia and Andujar would be enough for Cleveland to say “YES”, but there are no sure fire MLB stars in this list (except maybe Andujar if he has another great season in 2020). Clevinger is a star and has years of control left which Cleveland loves. It will be very hard to pry him loose unless they get back a massive return. Someone like SD would have a better chance with their prospects. A package centered around Patino & Gore would certainly pique the interest of Cleveland much more than what the Yankees could offer.

P.S. – How much are the Yankees going to pay James Paxton and Tanaka to return? I assume they’ll both ask for salaries in the $20M+ range, so the Yankees will have to blow past the CBT ‘cap’ for the third year in a row to do that, given the other holes they’ll need to fill. Does anyone know if NY wants to reset in 2021?

Nah not wanting Clevinger anymore with German coming back. Just want Frankie Lindor. Thinking a package of Miguel Andujar, Deivi Garcia, Michael King, Thairo Estrada, and Tyler Wade gets that done at the August 31st trade deadline

Okay, Cegmyster, why do you think that your offer would be good enough to get Francisco Lindor? A player that CANNOT play a defensive position, and a 5-9 pitcher that some scouts believe won’t hold up as a starting pitcher. are the main pieces for a top 5 player in baseball. A DH and a possible reliever. Boy, you really over value the Yankee players. Thankfully, Cleveland’s front office is much smarter and would never consider your deal.

Some Yankee fans are funny! I have seen so many trade ideas from fans like Ceg where some combination of Andujar, Garcia and Frazier is worth any player in mlb. Even though none of them are good enough to start for the Yankees themselves.

I totally disagree I can get Josh Hader right now for Miguel Andujar who you say doesn’t have a position which isn’t true. He can play 3rd base or left field. You and hockeyjoe will kick yourself when he hits 30 homeruns yearly and improves on his defense. And you wish you would of traded for him when you had a chance to.

It doesn’t look like the Yankees could just get Josh Hader for Andujar right now. Looks like he would have been part of a package and the Yankees still weren’t sure it would have been enough.

We know you REALLY want Lindor for the Yankees spare parts. But it’s not happening this year.

Oh and by the way, Hader has nowhere near the value that Lindor has.

I’m ok with my Yankee major league players and prospects. If you don’t want em no problem. The Yankees are the favorites to win in the AL even without Lindor or Clevinger. Good luck hope you guys win your division. Hate the Twinkies and the Chi-Sox.

Why can’t the Tribe just pay him the $30 million dollars a year he desires for the next 7 years? After all he is a franchise player right? The Indians should try to sign him lst before trading him

Hey wish you guys the best trying to extend Lindor. Hopefully you can and he doesn’t just leave you for draft picks. Yankees are probably winning it all without Lindor anyway. The Dodgers and Nationals will be tough. But not as worried as you think. Lindor would just push the Yankees over to win the whole thing. In my opinion he is our missing piece. Maybe not?

The Indians have tried to sign Francisco Lindor, but small market teams do not have the same advantages money wise that large market teams like the Yankees and Dodgers have. The Yankees can have mistakes like Ellsbury and trading for Stanton’s contract and still have money to spend. A bad contract like that on a small market team can hamper them for a decade. There is a real money imbalance in major league baseball. The Yankees receive 2 1/2 time the amount of money from a local TV contract than the Indians do. That is one significant advantage among many other money streams that big market teams have. It is not a level playing field.. Another example is the Yankees TV deal is almost 6 times larger than that of the Miami Marlins.

Ceg, I obviously would like to sign and keep him, but I also understand the marketplace off a small market team. I would rather keep him while the Indians are contenders like they did for several others like Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, and others. If a trade has to happen, it needs to bring players OF NEED that can help keep the Indians competitive. I just don’t see the Yankees as a team that can meet the needs of the Cleveland Indians. The Dodgers could have easily had Lindor in the offseason. They had the controllable MLB ready piece that could have lead a Lindor deal, but they would not include him and the Indians would not settle for less.

You can keep your squad of DHs (Andujar, Frazier, Stanton) and I will be glad to have Lindor on the Indians. While I am watching Lindor play, Yankee fans will watch Frazier again on the bench or on the taxi squad and Andujar be a part time player behind Urshela and Stanton who will likely DH more than any other Yankee.

I am not a fan of the Indians or the Yankees Ceg. I am just a neutral fan who is saying that what you are offering for Lindor has very little value. If Frasier is such a sure thing to hit 30-HR yearly the Yankees wouldn’t have signed 37yo Brett Gardner to play LF, would they?

Yea….no it doesn’t. Cleveland has absolutely no place for andujar, Garcia is a good second piece but the Yankees don’t have a one piece that matches up….Lindor will not be traded as Cleveland will be in the hunt. When he is traded in the off season, it will be to the dodgers, padres, Braves or cards.

Indiansjoe I definitely disagree. Where are you getting this star shortstop in a trade for Lindor in the off-season? It’s likely not happening. The Indians will likely take the best offer available. We will see what the best offer will be. Why not just pay your franchise player what he deserves and keep him in Cleveland?

I would love for them to pay him, sadly not what Dolan will do. Don’t need a star shortstop back, minors is full of middle infielders. But do need a star player that can play a position of need. Andujar is blocked by Ramírez, Reyes, Santana, other Santana at 3rd dh and first…not a position of need. Garcia is a late inning reliever, which is great. But you don’t trade a Lindor unless you get a guy that might become a star…..maybe not today but someday. They may not always workout, but your fans must believe it at the trade. And Cleveland has let players play out their contracts many times as position players, there is no guarantees they trade Lindor. They could hold on to him til the end and try to say they did all the could to sign him and it just didn’t work out, like they did with bell, thome and manny

If Lindor is your favorite player on the Indians and is a franchise player you got to extend him now. And keep him. Shame on ownership for not doing so. That’s definitely a red flag. Andujar is not garbage with 500 at bats he’ll hit 30 homers or so. Same thing with Frazier. That’s 30 more homers then you will likely get with Lindor. Garcia I feel will definitely be a 3rd or 4th starter in this league. But Clarke Schmidt is probably a future #2 or #3 assuming these guys don’t get hurt.

I would put Ramirez at 2b. Andujar defense is improving at 3b. If he is really bad try Andujar at 2b and put Ramirez back at 3b. Andujar & Frazier are not going to hurt you with the bat. They will definitely improve your offense and hurt your defense some. When they have the at bats there going to produce. You’d have One of the best offenses in baseball. Andujar is the next Adrian Beltre without the gold glove defense of course. He is improving defensively though

Ceg, Cleveland is supposed to trade a gold glove power hitting superstar for players that they will have to experiment with to find a position. You don’t trade a superstar for players that you will have to experiment with to find a position. Cleveland have a solid 2B for this season and have prospects coming from a better farm system than the Yankees. A farm system loaded with middle infield prospects. I repeat, Andujar is no more than a DH and the Indians do not need a DH.
You don’t trade a talented player like Lindor for players with so many question marks.

The Yankees if given a choice would likely take the cheaper Tanaka back at 3 years, $65 million. They’ll likely let Paxton walk unless he takes a 5 year deal at $120 million? Doubt it. They have Clarke Schmidt to take Paxton’s spot in the rotation anyway

You type too much bruh. Let me summarize for you …The Yankees have a genius GM and endless economic resources. They will always be relevant under the Steinbrenner’s and cashman. That doesn’t guarantee titles, but they will always be relevant and right there. No need to over-analyze that. We know. NYers will fight 4 hours of traffic each way and spend $500 just to see a regular season game on a work day.
The Yankees will always have that

I do not agree that Cashman is a genius. Remember he signed Ellsbury and traded for Stanton. Both of those contracts have haunted and will continue to haunt the Yankees in the future. The Yankees will always compete because they have more money than everyone else. Small market can’t survive major contract mistakes that the Yankees can.

Lindor doesn’t want to sign with Cleveland long term. Might as well as move him and get something back for him this season. Or just pay your franchise player instead?
