Yankees Activate DJ LeMahieu From Injured List

By Mark Polishuk | August 29, 2020 at 10:56am CDT

The Yankees have activated DJ LeMahieu from the 10-day injured list, the team announced.  Miguel Andujar has been optioned back to the club’s alternate training site in a corresponding move.

LeMahieu hit the IL due to a sprained left thumb back on August 16, and while his IL stint didn’t last much beyond the 10-day minimum, the absence was surely noted by a Yankees team that is in the midst of a seven-game losing streak.  With Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gleyber Torres still injured, the return of LeMahieu’s bat will be very welcome in the Bronx.  LeMahieu was hitting .411/.456/.534 over 79 PA prior to his injury.

Andujar’s latest call-up resulted in a 2-for-10 showing over 10 plate appearances in four games.  The young slugger has only a .285 OPS in 32 Major League PA this season, though his attempts to get on track haven’t been helped by either the lack of consistent playing time available in the Yankee lineup.

Finally some good news. With Andújar being optioned I assume Gio is healthy now which is also good

They need offense. I’d have kept Andujar up, but hopefully this is a sign Urshela will be back for today’s game.

Andujar has been horrible on offence this year and has always been horrible on defence so the move makes sense.
I recognize how hard it must be for a player who missed an entire year to come back to a season under these circumstances.

Wtf. You can’t keep sending andujar down and wondering why he’s not hitting. They should’ve optioned Estrada

@yankees500 — Why would they option someone down that can still provide adequate defense on multiple positions(including shortstop) to keep someone up that’s not hitting and can barely field a ball? Andujar will still get live AB’s at the alt. site, most likely more than he would on the Active Roster.

Or they should recognize Andujar is not going to produce this year. Let him just try to relax and refocus in the alternate camp with no pressures. The way the team is playing, the pressures he probably put on himself just builds.

The almighty Miquel Andujar can’t stay up on an injury riddled team that has lost 7 straight games, yet he is supposed to be the main trade piece for an ace pitcher. I guess we are seeing the true value of a DH only player.

@hockeyjohn- why are you worrying about the Yankees and being hypocritical as always? I think the Yankees are in your head. Why not worry about the team that you root for? Nobody cares in regards to your opinion, seriously. Why not give it a rest? And worry about your next championship.

Yank4life, you comment more often on Indian threads or about the Indians than most Indian fans do. The truth hurts you on Andujar, doesn’t it. You know darn well that a DH only player like Andujar has little value. I guess you’ll have to put your Andujar lunchbox in a garage sale before your school year starts. Don’t forget to do your homework!!!!!1

@hockeyjohn- All you do is yap, yap, and yap. And as always you continue to make no sense. Truth be told the more I talk to you the more I feel sorry for you. But I guess I would be as bitter and delusional as you rooting for a losing organization all these years. Poor kid. Look at all the Dysfunction this franchise has caused you. It doesn’t seem to be worth it. It’s turned you into a big loser.

If the yanks dont get andujar right, he risks being the next best thing/phenom who has been ruined. Think Chamberlin, hughes……

you can only yo yo a guy so much before his mojo is lost forever.

You have NO PITCHING!!! LeMahieu makes little difference except to plug a defensive hole at third. Last night was a prime example. Yankees led both games of a double header and saw their leads evaporate as balls landed in the stands. To win at baseball, your pitching staff has to give up less runs than you score.

Trade Andujar already NOW. They keep jerking him around. He’s up then down, up then down. He gets more action then a kids yoyo.

Andujar can definitely get traded and bring something of value back. I don’t pay attention to the all the trolls on here stating they he couldn’t. He isn’t playing regularly and that is a problem as @mlbnyyfan- has stated. He has been bounced around like a yo-yo all season. He just needs to go somewhere where he can play regularly. He can hit given the at bats.

Andujar at best gets you a middle reliever or a PTBNL.

@Red Eye- can’t tell you how much I disagree with you. Andy still has value. There is no reason he can’t be part of a package that could net the Yankees a Trevor Bauer who is a much better pitcher then Cleveland Clevinger or Dan Plesac’s Favorite Nephew, Zach. And as a rental, Bauer would be cheaper. Andy, Deivi Garcia, Luis Gil, or a Mike King could make that trade definitely happen. The Reds are good but let’s face it their not Championship material just yet.

He brings back decent bullpen help, that’s definitively something of value, but nothing close to a an ace, or even a good SP, like some yankee fans believe.

@saavedra- the Yankees will definitely hang onto Andujar if their just getting a bullpen piece back or a PTBNL. That wouldn’t make any sense. The Reds should trade Trevor Bauer to the Yankees. No way he’s staying in Cincinnati long-term. The Yankees could offer two young starting pitching prospects & Andy for him to get that done.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the yankees, aside from the padres it’s the team I bet on the most, but it’s been 2 years since he was a strong offensive presence, and he’s a defensive liability. There’s not much market for mashers that can’t mash or field. If the yankees get Baurer, it’s not going to be because they got Andujar on that deal, it’s going to be all about the other players involved.

Time for a rebuild with a different vision from a different GM. Too one -dimensional and predictable.
