Braves Keep Same 28-Man Roster For NLCS

By TC Zencka | October 12, 2020 at 11:50am CDT

The Braves are sticking with what works as they head into the NLCS showdown with the Dodgers. They’ll stick with the same 28-man roster that they took into the NLDS. Here’s a refresher:

Right-Handed Pitchers

  • Ian Anderson (Game 2 starter)
  • Shane Greene
  • Chris Martin
  • Mark Melancon
  • Darren O’Day
  • Josh Tomlin
  • Jacob Webb
  • Bryse Wilson
  • Kyle Wright (Game 3 starter)
  • Huascar Ynoa

Left-Handed Pitchers

  • Grant Dayton
  • Max Fried (Game 1 starter)
  • Tyler Matzek
  • A.J. Minter
  • Will Smith

Catchers

  • Travis d’Arnaud
  • Tyler Flowers

Infielders

  • Ozzie Albies
  • Charlie Culberson
  • Austin Riley
  • Freddie Freeman
  • Pablo Sandoval
  • Dansby Swanson

Outfielders

  • Ronald Acuña Jr.
  • Adam Duvall
  • Marcell Ozuna
  • Cristian Pache
  • Nick Markakis

The Braves will ride again with a 15-man pitching staff. They may very well need every arm if this 7-game, 7-day series goes the distance. In terms of their starters, they are sticking with the same guys for the first three games of the series, with Fried, Anderson, and Wright going on consecutive days, per the Athletic’s David O’Brien (via Twitter). They survived the first two rounds of the postseason without having to name a fourth starter, but that’s certain to change against the Dodgers. No word yet on who will start that game four, with Ynoa, Wilson, and Tomlin being the most capable of providing length.

Here’s hoping Freddie gets untracked. He’s struggled so for this post-season.

He’s struggled every year in the post, except for his first taste which was the one gamer against the cards. .204 hitter in the postseason if I am not mistaken.

I wonder how Ender Inciarte feels being left of all the postseason rosters and replaced by Pache

Yeah, it’s a shame that his offense fell off a precipice. Maybe next year he can rebound.

I’ve thought similarly. I know he really isn’t very productive anymore but it’s difficult to not like him. He has to see the writing on the wall when it comes to his future in Atlanta.

I think Pache is the future in centerfield. If he can have an OPS over .700 he is worth sticking out there regularly because of his defense

One would hope he’d recognize that Pache is probably superior defensively as well as on the basepaths, and those are the only reasons either is playing in the playoffs. His service time protected him from this move during the regular season, but there are no such repercussions to “optioning” him off the playoff roster.

FWIW, apparently Pache has under-performed on the bases. That’s a part of his game that needs more work. Otherwise, I agree with you.

Pache is for sure superior. Ender was noticeably unable to make plays that he was able to in the past. Missing flyballs by a half foot, dropping tough ones he’d normally make that don’t go down as errors. I think he’s lost a step or two.

Who cares how he feels, he’s fallen so far off it’s almost funny. Sadly, we owe the automatic out 9 million next year, I think, so no one is taking him unless we take a bad contract in return. Braves would do well just to release him and free up the roster spot.

It used to be Spahn and Sain and pray for rain. I’m wondering if they have a great sprinkler system in that ballpark.

Since it’s got a roof, they might need to go Bull Durham on it.

LOL that was exactly why I referenced the sprinkler system. I was talking about the overhead ones, not in ground. Of course perhaps a busted water main might help (all in jest of course).

I thought they may have brought back Folty or Newcomb for this series.

I had heard that Folty was getting some weight and velocity back, but I think the Braves were making a statement to both those guys. They basically said take a seat until next season and figure your issues out or you won’t be around.

At this point, they need to keep Newcomb in the pen. He had some success there and could easily do what Jackson or Tomlin did. He had a couple of decent starts so the stuff is there, he just needs consistency.

Folty, he needs like a six month class in body language while pitching and a mental health class. It was pretty obvious he was going through something, so hopefully he’s still around the team and active with them.

“A six month class in body language” ROFL! So funny and so true. That guy wears his emotions like a cartoon character! =D
