White Sox Sign First Round Pick Colson Montgomery

By Anthony Franco | July 20, 2021 at 7:47pm CDT

The White Sox announced they’ve come to terms on a $3.027MM deal with first rounder Colson Montgomery. That matches the slot value associated with the 22nd overall selection.

Montgomery’s spot on pre-draft prospect rankings was variable. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN slotted the left-handed hitting infielder 13th, while Baseball America had him 34th and Keith Law of the Athletic placed him 56th. There’s some question marks about Montgomery’s age — at 19, he’s a bit old for a prep draftee — but he has plenty of power projection and a good chance to stick on the infield, likely at third base.

An Indiana product, Mongtomery had been committed to Indiana University. The White Sox will sway him from that commitment and add a high-upside young player to a farm system that has been thinned out a bit as Chicago’s top talents have graduated to the major leagues.

Without a doubt. This kids got HOF written all over him. Even if it took him awhile to get through his school years.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Dogboner was finally right about something.

Dogbone, there is a good chance Colson Montgomery’s parents had him start school later since his birthday was on February. Let’s just say you can not be an idiot to play baseball.

That’s not too bad graduating HS at 19. That’s 2 years before you graduated HS.

Hold up, I thought Dogbone was a grade school drop out that mops up the floors at peep shows!

Not a bad pay day for kid who just graduated high school! Who needs to go college when you are good at baseball!

Actually, a college degree isn’t what it used to be. Desk jobs can be outsourced.
Job security in America is now in ‘hands on’ jobs. Electricians, plumbers, mechanics, HVAC workers can’t be outsourced.

been this way for 20years, except the media and everyone else pushes college so hard..now you can’t find good work, and when you can they basically can name their price..

kid you you just graduated from a HVAC school and think you’re a tech and that’s all you will do..they all want $20/hr starting wage but hasn’t once brazed in a 130F degree attic that has 40yr old insulation raining itch on you every move you make bc you’re on your hands and knees sometimes belly bc space is that tight and a rodent/insect problem you knew about when you took the cover off the tstat 10sec after you walk in.

“oh school didn’t teach you that huh?..oh you thought we only brazed in the a/c and on a workbench with a vice holding it waist height?”

What’s the joke going around the web for years: a bachelor’s degree will get you a job as head barista at Starbacks (or something to that effect).

A bachelor’s degree doesn’t have the same impact it did 25 years ago.

Can always go back to school…

Sox fast track their draft picks to the majors. Not sure whether he can beat out Moncada for 3B but good luck in a few years!!

Yeah. Maybe they can make this kid a relief pitcher and ‘fast track’ him to Chicago.

Maybe in a few years. The bus is full of studs for the foreseeable future. Now if they were a team about to tear down a dynasty roster and start rebuilding from scratch, then I can see them rushing him. But luckily that’s not the case, right dodgebone?

2024=2025 Moncada makes $17MM and $24MM that’s when he becomes trade bait if he’s producing big numbers.
