Let’s check in on some roster moves filed before today’s slate of afternoon games…
- The Braves activated Touki Toussaint from the bereavement list and optioned the right-hander to Triple-A, the team announced. Toussaint could still prove useful in the Braves’ push for the postseason. A playoff role would likely have to come out of the bullpen, however. The 25-year-old logged 50 innings with a 4.50 ERA/5.79 FIP.
- The Pirates have reinstated David Bednar from the 10-day injured list and optioned Kyle Keller to Triple-A to create the open roster spot, per the team. Bednar has put together a solid season out of the Pirates’ bullpen, establishing himself as a high leverage arm for the Pirates with a 2.18 ERA/2.70 FIP over 57 2/3 appearances, chipping in three saves and 11 holds.
- The Dodgers recalled southpaw Andrew Vasquez and optioned outfielder Luke Raley, the team announced. Vasquez has made just two appearances for the Dodgers this season, tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings after being acquired from the Twins at the August 31 deadline to trade players not on the 40-man roster. Raley has a .182/.250/.288 line in 72 plate appearances.

I am a Dodgers fan, in theory we have a great year on paper with 99 wins coming into today. I know I should be grateful as other teams are not as fortunate as us.
But you wonder what more we could have done this year given we have had so many key injuries. Its been hard to watch players with such poor numbers being left on the roster for periods longer than they normally would.
sdbaseballguy
I refuse to blame injuries, every team has injuries. In reality Betts had a terrible first half, Bellinger had a terrible season, Lux underperformed for 3/4 of the season, the bullpen never really established a reliable left handed option and the entire team failed to consistently hit with runners in scoring position. Lastly, the teams two best players were acquired at the trade deadline, pretty much says it all. Without them they’d be 10 games behind the Giants. I fear 1 and done vs the Cards.
BeforeMcCourt
Oh no, a padre fan is worried about the dodgers playoff chances
And no. No one believes your lie. You’re not a dodger fan
sdbaseballguy
Been a Dodgers fan since Drysdale. I’ve forgotten more knowledge regarding the Dodgers then you presently retain. I laugh at Dodger fans like you. I’ve ate and slept Dodger games since before you were born. I’ve seen it all. You’re a newcomer in my book. Vin was a young man when I started listening. So spare me with you believe. Lol McCourt.

Are the Dodgers building a new stadium? Oh…my bad that would be dodgerdome
BeforeMcCourt
Hahaha. Ohh the drysdale line! All that line means is you’re old and cranky and you were a fan 65 years ago. It doesn’t mean your opinion is worth Jack today. You’re a bigger dodger hater than MetsFan22 is a homer
BlueSkies_LA
So that makes you young and cranky?
giantsphan12
What’s wrong with young and cranky? I’m young and cranky for sure!
BlueSkies_LA
I suppose it gives you a big jump, so when you are old you can be really cranky.
milla
Sure hope your fears about the Cards come to fruition. Losing that game to the Dbacks might be the most critical loss of the season.
Ghost of past pirates
99 wins and your bitching???
sdbaseballguy
They’re a 110-15 win team that’s way underperformed. They’re arguably better than SF at 8 positions but underperformed nightly.

Did anyone else read this as a record?
lady1959
Exactly! Stfu. Lol ⚾️
Benjamin101677
You talk about the dodgers with injuries yet other teams had more injuries just part of the game. Look at the Braves list their ace and best player. Mets had horrible injuries; Padres had injuries.
Regular season really means nothing if you don’t go deep in post season. Everyone remembers the World Series winners
AlvaroEspinoza 2
Mets and Padres lead the league in most games missed to the IL. Look it up before you complain about your own team
BeforeMcCourt
Neither NYM or SD have 4 guys who are MVP caliber players each miss more than 2 months… LA has that, and more
BlueSkies_LA
I don’t see fortunate as being the right word, unless you are referring to the fortune Dodger fans spend on the team. That’s where the team gets the money for all that lavish spending. It doesn’t grow on the baseball tree. It isn’t wrong for fans to have high expectations, seeing as how it’s their loyalty and their money that makes the team possible.
Sadface
No the Dodgers have had a great year, but somehow the Giants have been better. It doesn’t make sense with how poorly the Giants have played the last few years that they can suddenly become A great team especially with mostly older players. I really don’t like the Giants but maybe they are one of those teams of destiny this year.
frankiegxiii
We’ll see during the playoffs if the giants are magically able to score the perfect amount of runs in the ninth inning to win games…
SalaryCapMyth
Maybe the Giants will get ousted by the Cardinals in a one game playoff but even if that happens, the Giants still blew away expectations in an extreme way. Nobody thought they would win over 100 games and perhaps even the division. Being a Giants fan must be pretty sweet because they could lose the way I described and still feel like the Giants provided way more than they should have.
Benjamin101677
It looks like the giants will get the division title the dodgers are trailing them by about 2 games.
I don’t know how the giants have done it but they have beat a lot of good teams and did it long enough that have to tip your hat to them.
bucsfan0004
Lets hope the Dodgers make it past the Cardinals in the WC. Then the Giants can beat the Dodgers and make all the Dodgers fans wonder wtf just happened.
dodgers32
The Giants are getting either career or rebound years from several players, Belt, Crawford, Gausman, and DeSclafani to name a few. Except for Buster Posey, who is a standout year-to-year, who knows what Belt and Crawford will do next year (and for which team they’ll play)? A breakout year from Lamont Wade: he needs to put 3 of those together to make fans believe. And bullpens are notoriously fickle year after year. However, I think Farhan has done an exceptional job cobbling together the pieces this year. It’s all come together so far. The postseason is usually unpredictable.
averagejoe15
Crawford was extended so presumably the Giants will be keeping him

I still dont get it and given the lack of logic I dont buy it lasting beyond this year, but I’m sure I’ll be called a hater for it.

Isn’t it that they won the odd number years for a few years? Just skipped a bit.
Monkey’s Uncle
Bednar has been a gem for the Pirates, especially since he was part of the return in the Musgrove trade.
tiredolddude
He is one of the few bright spots this year, and a local kid. And given this and the idea of his continued success, one can foresee him going to the Rays for a broken down pitcher and three low-A prospects in the near future

Agree, glad he is back . K. Keller should have been gone a long time ago.
chiefnocahoma1
Dodgers are the new Yankees. Fans crying bc they should’ve won more, when they’ve clinched in early September. So out of touch. Just spend another 300 mil-big deal.
dodgers32
As sdbaseballguy said, they are a 110 win team if the Bauer implosion wouldn’t have happened, Betts didn’t have his injury, and Bellinger wasn’t as fragile/unlucky as he’s been (although the bat wasn’t going to be back this year). Of course, if Bauer didn’t implode, would they have been motivated to go acquire Max and Trea?
BlueSkies_LA
Bauer didn’t “implode,” he behaved like a total fool, and his bad choices cost the team and its fans.
giantsphan12
I agree @ blue. Bauer is a sick man and the Dodgers drive to win caused them to overlook his character flaws. They got bit hard by their lack of vetting. Bauer not playing is the Dodgers own fault.
BlueSkies_LA
At this point I am reserving judgment on his psychological state, but I do know at a minimum he is completely lacking in personal judgment. Every team should have a drive to win, but responsibility for every decision in this pursuit, good and bad, falls squarely on the front office. With this one they turned wine into water. I’ve already been attacked by my fellow Dodger “fans” for saying so, and I feel certain it will happen again.
sdbaseballguy
That’s what I love about Yankee fans, their insistence on excellence. Ya it’s obnoxious at times but their passion for success and their unwillingness to accept anything but, drive ownership to all strive for a title. Sometimes they’re successful but their management is ALWAYS trying to win. Could you really ask for anything more as a fan?
TradeAcuna
Hopefully, this is the last time Touki puts on the Braves uni…and Will Smith….and Snitker.
Benjamin101677
Snitker will probably be nominated for manager of the year he did a excellent job with what he had and most likely wins a division .
Will smith: well I have less fingernails to chew on watching him pitch but he will be a Braves next year still signed
Touki is young the stuff is there he just has to get over hurdles. I think way is he is first couple innings he would be better in the bullpen
TradeAcuna
Just like Newcomb and Faulty right? He is done. He never had consistent success in the minors.
Cohn Joppolella
Ok, I’ll bite; why do you not want to see Freeman in a Braves uniform next year?
Benjamin101677
Bad thing is it looks like the dodgers get the wild card and have to face the cardinals who are on fire. Regular season means nothing in short post season
Smacky
Nah, Dodgers’ fans primary concern is fighting their fellow fans in the Dodgers Stadium octagon.
They whole “oh, if only Bauer hadn’t been a violent perv, and Bellinger didn’t hurt his shoulder celebrating a home run and something, something Mookie Betts, we would’ve won more games.” You traded for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. SHUT. UP. ALREADY. Geez
BlueSkies_LA
I’ve always wondered how talking trash makes some people seem to feel better about themselves.
