Seattle To Host All-Star Game In 2023

By Anthony Franco | September 16, 2021 at 3:23pm CDT

TODAY: The league officially announced that the 2023 game will be in Seattle.

SEPTEMBER 14: Major League Baseball is finalizing plans to host 2023 All-Star festivities at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. MLB has yet to make an official announcement on the news.

Seattle has twice before hosted the All-Star Game — at the Kingdome in 1979 and at T-Mobile Park (then called Safeco Field) in 2001. The National League won the 1979 contest by a score of 7-6, while the American League took the 2001 game by a 4-1 margin.

Next year’s event will be hosted in Los Angeles. The Dodgers were initially announced as hosts for the 2020 festivities, but those were canceled during last year’s shortened season and will instead be made up in 2022. As Passan notes, the only other future All-Star host site known at this time is Philadelphia, which will get the event in 2026 as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

I am going to wait for the 2045 All Star game in Seattle.

Like clockwork, they get it every 22 years in a league with plenty more than 22 teams. Curious but it seems to be working for them.

2001 was one of the best All Star games I can remember. 8 Mariners on the roster, Ichiro’s rookie year/MVP season, and the swan song for Cal Ripken Jr.

          ====================================
Asking both blacks and whites to abide by simple rules is not racist.

Your assumption that blacks cannot possible figure out how to obtain an ID is racist. The phrase you are looking for is “The soft bigotry of low expectations”.

I remember when announcers would interview black FB players after the game. It was probably the early 80s. After every interview, the announcer would say “…and he is so well-spoken”.

It sounded every bit as cringe-worthy then as it does now. Like ‘Wow, I found a black guy that could talk”.

Moving the game to Colorado was racist. Colorado is 84% White, 4% Black or African American. Georgia is 59% White, 32% Black or African American. Why would they take tens of millions of dollars away from minority-owned businesses and give it to White-owned businesses? It doesn’t make sense.

Atlanta is 51% Black, 41% White. Denver is 76% White, 9% Black. Lots of lost dollars for those small businesses, who spent a lot of money getting ready for the A-S game. Sad.

You do know that just because the majority of poor people just happen to be minorities, it’s not racism, don’t you? Furthermore, you do also realize that anyone who can get a ride to the polls or a drop box can just as easily get a ride to the DMV to obtain an extremely cheap non-driver’s ID, don’t you?

The only reason anyone in any state has ever been unfairly targeted by voter ID laws is because (aside from during the pandemic) most states require you to show up somewhere in person if you don’t have a valid reason to vote absentee. If you’re going to complain about voting mechanics, complain about that, not about the good voting laws that cut down on potential fraud without affecting poor people at all save for the one part about cutting the number of drop boxes.

The problem with the law is that it seeks to fix a problem that doesn’t exist. Don’t even try to argue election fraud if you don’t have specific proof of widespread fraud (which you don’t), it’s just sad and pathetic.

If Trump had carried GA in 2020 there would’ve been no changes to the law. This is an attempt to affect the outcome of future elections in favor of a dwindling Republican majority in the state by trying to suppress the votes in predominantly Democratic (and black) areas of GA. You can try to argue it isn’t racist in nature, but all you are really doing is just putting lipstick on a pig.

IDs were never really the issue with the law anyway. It’s more about the removal of drop boxes that facilitated safe voting during the pandemic and the ability of right wing partisans to take over the running of elections in Democratic counties.

I’ve read the provisions of the law, and really the only problem I have with the Georgia law is limiting the number of drop boxes, and their accessibility to business hours. The rationale seems to be to reduce the possibility of tampering. I can see ways that access could be expanded and still provide security. There were instances of some counties misinterpreting or breaking the existing election law, so giving the state more control was a reaction to that. Requiring some form of ID is reasonable. Democrats just oppose that for political reasons, as evidenced by its inclusion in the national voting bill that they proposed.

So, it should be illegal to give people a bottle of Dasani in an 8 hour line to vote?

It should be legal for the state legislature to overrule and take over local election boards (that oh hey look at that, just happened to be in the biggest county with a majority black population…how about that?*) in order to declare the loser the winner?

          K.

*This is not theoretical. They have already started the process to fire Atlanta’s board to stash loyalists there to suppress votes and refuse to certify results. But evidently, you are OK with that?

Realistically Oakland and Tampa Bay will not host games in their current ballparks, Fenway Park, Camden Yards, Rogers Centre, Wrigley Field, all are more deserving than Seattle for the third time since any of these parks have hosted the game

You can make a case for Camden Yards, but Rogers is ugly and dated. Fenway and Wrigley while they have a tremendous history just are up to par with the modern stadiums. Oakland is a literal $hithole and the Trop is an ugly cave in the crappy part of town. T-Mobile park is still one of the best baseball stadiums in MLB.

I can get why they wouldn’t want it in an NL stadium 3 years in a row, but they better give it back to Atlanta in 2024 to make up for unfairly gypping them out of it this year!

Then the Texas Rangers can have it in 2025 (although I don’t get why Seattle got the nod over them for 2023) and Philly for 2026.

With just the AVERAGE face value for an All-Star Game ticket in Dodger Stadium for the cancelled but yet to be played 2020 mid-season popularity contest around $650.00 PER TICKET, I suppose it’s good to see people shelling out major amounts of cash for such a meaningless ballgame. And that’s just an average face value PER SEAT, and not inclusive of both associated and non-associated extra expenses. In this day and age it is more than sufficiently obvious that what USED to be our country’s National Pastime has morphed into a true corporate event, simply unattainable and unaffordable for a hard working average American family who is working hard just to make ends meet from paycheck to paycheck..

In Major League Baseball, long has it been said there are the “haves” are the “have nots”, i.e. translation………….teams that have the wherewithal and financial resources to both prosper and flourish in professional baseball, and those that are forever and irrevocably doomed to be on the outside looking in just wishing they could partake in this once grand game.

So, the question could easily become is the notion of being a “capitalistic” society really, really such a good one? When paltry, minute, and seemingly non-existent percentages of the population and its money making enterprises are the ONLY ones to have a real chance at anything even close to happiness and success in life, there’s something wrong in America.

The All-Star Game is one thing (still easily the best game of its kind in North American professional sports), but most teams have $5 ticket nights due to dynamic pricing. Yeah, you have to add a couple fees and transportation costs to that, but it’s still perfectly affordable as long as you pick the right game and don’t splurge on a bunch of beer and/or other concessions, MLB isn’t pricing anyone but the poor out of attending ballgames.

If this is an assignment for your sociology class, you failed.

1-I don’t care if I can’t afford an ASG ticket. I can’t afford a 1995 Porsche 928 either. But I did watch FB opening day at the pub, and will have a couple of beers on my friends porch this weekend. That’s where the fun really is.

2-As Lanidrac mentioned, BB tickets are readily affordable. Yankee tickets v CL this weekend, in NY, can be had for as little as $9 each.

The problem with people like you is that you don’t want a regular experience. You want the RS/NYY games, or AS games. You don’t want to go to regular events with regular people. You’d prefer to dream about sitting behind HP for the ASG, and then whining about it when it doesn’t happen.

Pioneer Square, a small section, didn’t have any protests/riots. That’s great. Lots of other areas did. As a tourist, how would I know which areas are safe and which aren’t? If I were to wear one of those famous red hats (I don’t own one, btw), would I be welcomed and safe?

The closest is the guy yelling about Satan on the microphone outside the stadium that nobody pays any attention to, but who knows. I’m paying attention to a baseball game so maybe they happen all the time there and I just have no idea…

Seattle is 83.9 square miles. Don’t all major cities have areas that are undesirable? I lived in Honolulu and there are parts I have been that as a tourist you would never go and if it wasn’t for friends I was with I would not have been there. I understand as a Braves fan that you are un-happy about the game being pulled due to political BS which have nothing to do with the game as a whole, but why bash a city you obviously know very little about?

I never said anything about the election. Seeing what you’ve been saying this entire thread, you’ve treated several people as if they are misguided on the topic and that you know everything about it better than anyone else. And to correct myself, the word I was looking for was “bombard”, not “bombast”. THAT, does make sense. Youve bombarded this entire forum with your political opinion that has nothing to do with the article at hand. If this was an article about the Atlanta Braves not getting the All Star game this year because of political motivation, I wouldn’t have even entered the discussion. Which I do not believe should have been moved for my own thoughts and reasons. But, its not. Thats not stopping you from doing what you can to make it about that. There are plenty of other forums to discuss this kind of political topics on are specifically designed for political talk. Not a baseball website talking about the 2023 All Star Game in Seattle, Washington.

For all your talk about hurt feelings and being offended, the 2021 All Star game getting moved out of Atlanta obviously upsets you quite deeply, at the very least effects you greatly. People do not always “bombard” forums with there opinions on irrelevant topics to said forum. Lots of times those types of comments get deleted because they don’t pertain to the topic of said forum. Also, even though you somehow gathered this from this conversation, I am not offended by you. You dont effect me enough to be offended by you. So that part was just a waste of typing energy. I guess Atlanta will never get another All Star game because of the fact that Manfred bends over backwards to the “woke” culture and the lies the media spreads about the Georgia voter ID law being racist. It’s funny how Denver got the game this year and the Colorado voter ID laws has stricter guidelines. Sad that the joke of a commissioner lets politics interfere with baseball and his dictator type actions cost the businesses etc. in the area of the stadium in Cobb County millions of dollars and took money out of the hands of employees and many of whom were minorities. I will never watch another All Star game as long as Manfred is running things.

But to vote, all you need to do is to go in and say Yo, I’m Joey’. In order to ensure the reliability of something as important as an election, shouldn’t we put a modicum of effort into the process?

The Dodgers haven’t hosted an all star game since 1980. And only three since 1933. And only since expansion began in 61. [the aforementioned 1980].

While they will be hosting in 2022 it will be 42 years between hosting. And they have a nice, refurbished stadium, in a beautiful setting.

Well, it was only relatively recently refurbished, hence why they waited so long to bring it back to such an old ballpark. Many quality stadiums only get to host the game once soon after they’re built and then never again until they get replaced..

Land, weak take. It has been refurbished over the course of the last 10-15 years. But it was clean and well kept the entire time.
Dodger stadium is, and will always be, one of the better stadiums to watch a baseball game at.
Based upon your “analysis” the Cubs and RedSox will never be hosting an all star game again until they build new stadiums. Ridiculous.

Dodger stadium has always been kept up well. It may be older but from comments by many on this site, and elsewhere, it has always been a beautiful and well run stadium to watch a game. Lots of newer stadiums have come and gone since it was built and most were never as nice as Dodger Stadium.
By your “analysis” neither the Cubs, nor the RedSox will ever host the game until a new stadium is built. Nor should the AllStar game have ever returned to the old Yankee Stadium or the old Cleveland stadium.
And by the way Land, it wasn’t “recently” refurbished.
Why it was 42 years, there is no explanation that makes sense. Your does not.
