Braves Designate Rylan Bannon For Assignment

By Anthony Franco | November 11, 2022 at 7:25pm CDT

The Braves announced this evening they’ve designated infielder Rylan Bannon for assignment. The move opens a 40-man roster spot for Nick Anderson, who has been signed to a one-year contract as previously reported.

Bannon has moved around the league over the past couple months. A longtime Orioles farmhand, he was designated for assignment by Baltimore in early August. He moved to the Dodgers and Braves in rapid succession via waivers. He didn’t play in the majors with L.A. and only suited up once for Atlanta, appearing as a late-game defensive substitution. Bannon only has five games of big league experience overall, but he’s attracted interest from a number of teams as infield depth.

A Xavier University product, he put together a .249/.367/.421 line over 411 Triple-A plate appearances this year. Bannon connected on 13 home runs and walked in a stellar 14.4% of his trips to the plate at that level. He punched out at a slightly elevated 24.3% clip, but he blended a very patient approach with decent power. The 26-year-old can’t play shortstop, though he’s capable of suiting up at either second or third base.

The Braves will now have a week to trade Bannon or look to run him through waivers. He still has a minor league option year remaining, so he could occupy a similar depth role he played this past season if another team is willing to hand him a 40-man roster spot.

Acuna to the Jays if Swanson leaves

Tis the season for fans to dump players they don’t want (Gurriel) and players they can’t name (low prospects) in deals for superstars (Acuna). Doubt the Braves would have much interest in Bichette as a headliner in an Acuna deal. They place a premium on infield defense. Tiedemann’s interesting, but he’s still just a pitching prospect (TINSTAAPP). AA yawns and politely hangs up on that offer.

Acuna way too friendly a deal. Braves have him cheap for five or six more years. Bo would cost three times as much at end of six years from now. 2024 already be making same as Acuna if not a few mill more.

From a jays fan perspective you’d love it. A steal. Reality not ever gonna happen.

Talk is Acuna wants out. He’s given money and hos body, only to see everyone around him get way more and He’s the #1 guy when healthy

If he pushes out, that package is fair. It’s probably top of the list.

That package is fair for a dynamic superstar with a team friendly deal…yikes. I’d think it would take some major league talent plus the Jays best two prospects.

@jays. RAJ doesn’t have much free time these days. He is currently LeBron’s biggest groupie and I heard heard he will be getting matching tattoos this off-season.

Acuna is making $17M/year for the remainder of his contract. How much is Bo making?

Rylan got his shot in Baltimore. He was decent. Got caught up in the numbers game in regards to depth of young infield talent throughout the system. Since then, LA then Atlanta. Hmmm. Maybe he’s one of these AAAA level guys?

Regardless of where his career takes him from here, he’ll be able to tell his grandkids he made it to the “show”. Friggin awesome! I wonder if the Os and Braves let him keep a jersey top, hat, etc.?

Of course they do. Do you think they are going to ask for used apparel to be returned?
