Athletics Reinstate Ramon Laureano, DFA Tyler Wade

By Simon Hampton | April 29, 2023 at 11:41am CDT

The Athletics announced they’ve activated outfielder Ramon Laureano from the injured list, and designated utilityman Tyler Wade for assignment.

Laureano’s return is a welcome boost for an A’s team that’s slumped to a 5-22 record entering play Saturday. The 28-year-old was hitting .218/.295/.436 with two home runs to begin the season before he hit the shelf with a left groin strain. That move came on April 19, so Laureano will be activated after spending the minimum ten days on the IL. While he’s put up ho-hum numbers at the plate, Laureano has excelled in a small sample of work in right field, collecting four Defensive Runs Saved on the young season.

The A’s will part ways with the speedy Wade, who’d picked up just one hit in 16 plate appearances. Known for his speed and defensive versatility, Wade had picked up four stolen bases and appeared at four positions for Oakland. Signed to a minor league deal, he’ll now be exposed to the rest of the league via the waiver wire, and while the hitting numbers don’t inspire a lot of confidence, there’s a chance a team puts in a claim to bring him in as a cheap pinch runner/defensive sub off the bench.

Good. A’s need Ramon big time! Liked Tyler Wade too so hopefully he goes unclaimed and stays in Oakland… Plenty of opportunities right now…

Wade is garbage, I’d rather Nick Allen just for the SS defense.

You want Allen sitting on the bench pinch running and playing SS for 2 innings at a time?

Opportunities to watch the minor league tryouts for the Las Vegas A’s, thrilling.

To quote a recent Family Guy, “Oakland Athletics, the biggest who cares in professional sports”.

    Anyone see this? theathletic.com/4470059/2023/04/29/mlb-as-las-vega…

A’s fans called out the owner and President.

Thanks for link, baseballislife. Seems like a lot of effort for the broadcasters to pretend none of the A’s fans in the stands were protesting the move announcement!

Getting your protest on television seems to be the only reason to go to a game. Who wants to give money to a scumbag ownership embezzling revenue sharing funds and putting out a triple A quality team while planning a move to Vegas?

I’m hoping to see some sparse attendance that is completely dominated by the opposing team’s fans, give everyone a daily reminder of how sketchy the MLB front office has become.

MLB Network blocked out the protest signs. Just shows the MLB powers protect owners over fans.

Ramon Laureano just is not a good player without PEDs enhancing his game.

He is a 4th outfielder. Good defense and can hit just enough but not a starter for most teams.

Too bad they dumped Pache. Here’s a better fielder than, well anyone, but he’s also been a better hitter than Ramon so far this year.

But the A’s couldn’t develop a hitter if Ted Williams’ head was the Hitting Instructor. The A’s development staff is terrible and their coaching staff can’t get a bee to buzz.

Ted Williams’ head loves to talk hitting 24/7.
