Blue Jays Finalize Coaching Staff

By Anthony Franco | December 16, 2024 at 11:58pm CDT

The Blue Jays announced their 2025 coaching staff on Monday afternoon. The only previously unreported addition is assistant pitching coach Sam Greene.

The 27-year-old Greene is one of the younger coaches on an MLB staff. This is his first big league coaching work. The Jays noted that he spent the ’24 season working as a senior pitching research specialist. Greene, a Pennsylvania native, pitched collegiately in Canada at Montreal’s McGill University. He has worked for the Jays for four seasons.

Greene joins newly-hired bullpen coach Graham Johnson as assistants to pitching coach Pete Walker. The Jays also shook up the hitting side, bringing in David Popkins to work as lead hitting instructor and tabbing Lou Iannotti as an assistant. The rest of John Schneider’s staff — all of whom are returnees from last season — is as follows: associate manager DeMarlo Hale, bench coach Don Mattingly, first base coach Mark Budzinski, third base coach Carlos Febles, assistant hitting coach Hunter Mense, and mental performance coach John Lannan.

It objectively is, it’s kind of wild. Schneider is probably the worst manager in the game so it starts at the top.

C’mon shapiro how many coaches does a team need ??

They still can’t hit and we have no bullpen .

this is the irony. if you need so many coaches, doesn’t that just scream we don’t trust our coach or current group.

the issue starts at the top with this team and until that changes, these are just putting small bandaids over a large wound

I agree , they almost have more coaches than players on this roster . Stop signing coaches and start signing some players with talent . Atkins and Shapiro way over evaluate the talent on this team and organization. There are only 3 good players (non pitching $left in this organization , Vlad, Bo and maybe Varsho(but he is a very inconsistent hitter, Springer is finished but they have no one better ,Kirk is not the catcher they should have kept.
Secondly who wants to come and play for this organization with Bo and Vlad not having a long term contract and no matter what Atkins spews out when interviewed it make a great big deal to players coming over . Why would they sign a 3-4 year contract if those guys are not around after 1 year .
The pitching staff is getting long in the tooth with their best years behind them and the bull pen sucks .
All that is caused by the non moves these two are not making . Example todays Bellinger move , all the Yankees did was give away 5 million dollars and some crappy pitcher , what do Shapiro and Atkins do when moves like this could be made this year and the past three seasons when these guys have done absolutely nothing to put a better team on field. . Belli is not a super star but an above average hitter and good outfielder .(that one move of many similar to that)
And Rogers what are they doing , right now they do not care as long as fans keep buying tickets and spending million at stadium games But as real fans of baseball we need to have a winning team on the field .

Jays look like they’re adrift at sea. Team’s already cooked before the season has started. They were already topics in MLB when it came to defense, yet still ended up in last in the ALE. They just doubled down on defense again this offseason. I can’t image them being anywhere other than last again.

So, the Jays have money to pursue Ohtani & Soto in consecutive off-seasons, but they haven’t locked up Vlad or acquired impactful free agents in that same time frame? Jays fans deserve better.

The fix for Vlad is quite simple. Ask for his price, assume a 20% buffer. Start negotiating. If the FO’s price isn’t in the buffer. Trade him. Make no mistake though, Vlad has to be the first situation resolved. If he can’t be signed it’s time to rebuild. If he is signed, let’s build it up

Build it up – with Atkins and Shapiro calling the shots? They’ve done nothing but tear down the club around Vlad and Bo. If I were those two I’d be demanding a trade right now. Surprised they haven’t.

This stand pat approach is on purpose, with all the signings going on elasewhaere they will tell us that they cant complete and need to start a rebuild, once Vlad goes I am gone, gone. gone. So is my sportsnet account.
Withoput a doubt the worst managment team in the game. they have destroyed an entire country that have failfully followed the Jays.

        NoSaint….agreed.
If there is “no price”…then there’s no intention on staying, and looking forward to a free agent’s payday, much like Soto experienced.

100percent correct with what these guys have put out on the field with Vlad and Bo the last few years why would these guys want to stay .
Last year there was already opposition on the team with what Atkins and Shapiro were putting on the field to help these guys win with some of the statements from the jays pitchers ,
And what have they done absolutely nothing , the same as the last 3 years. Everybody they have brought in has been lozy , they have signed a bunch of pitchers that can not even play in minors .

Last place is in tthd cards for jays again.
