Phillies Sign Guillo Zuniga, Nabil Crismatt To Minor League Deals

By Anthony Franco | December 27, 2024 at 7:13pm CDT

The Phillies signed relievers Nabil Crismatt and Guillo Zuñiga to minor league contracts earlier this month. Both deals are reflected on the team’s transaction log at MLB.com and the players’ respective social media accounts.

Both pitchers logged limited major league action in 2024. Crismatt, who turned 30 on Wednesday, made five appearances for the Dodgers early in the year. He spent the remainder of the season in Triple-A, which he divided between three organizations. Crismatt pitched in the minors between Los Angeles, San Diego and Texas. He had a tough showing in the Pacific Coast League, allowing 5.81 earned runs per nine through 79 innings. Crismatt struck out a slightly below-average 20.7% of batters faced against a decent 7.5% walk rate.

The Colombian-born hurler has struggled over six Triple-A seasons. His major league track record is quite a bit better. Crismatt owns a 3.71 earned run average through parts of five MLB campaigns. Most of that production came during a strong two-year run in San Diego between 2021-22. He has logged 20 major league innings over the past two seasons.

Zuñiga, 26, debuted with two appearances for the Cardinals in 2023. St. Louis dealt him to the Angels in a cash deal in February. Zuñiga made 15 appearances for the Halos. He tossed 17 2/3 innings, allowing 10 runs with 12 strikeouts and eight walks. Zuñiga pitched 26 innings at the Triple-A level, where he turned in a 5.19 ERA with a well below-average 14.3% strikeout rate. The Angels designated him for assignment when they acquired Travis d’Arnaud and released him a few days later.

This year’s drop in strikeouts marked a bizarre change from the bulk of Zuñiga’s minor league career. He’d fanned a quarter of batters faced over 29 appearances in Triple-A during the ’23 season. His strikeout rate frequently pushed 30% during his time in the low minors. Zuñiga averaged 97 MPH with his four-seam fastball this year and sat just under 99 MPH during his limited MLB stint with the Cardinals in 2023.

Phillies signing another bad fielding outfit would have been one of the stupidest moves ever. Thank goodness you don’t work for the Phillies

Hernandez is not a “bad” fielding outfielder. He gets the job done while excelling at the plate.

It’s a crime that he’s blacklisted by MLB because he’s a sexual freak, not because he’s a convicted criminal.

Bauer is blackballed and yet Freakbob and John Pork have never even been reprimanded for their many crimes. Just goes to show how Manfred is pulling the strings…

Bauer violated MLB’s Domestic Violence Policy. No criminal conviction is needed to be reprimanded. Playing a sport on any level isn’t a right; it’s a privilege. Bauer is free to get a job, just not in Major League Baseball. He isn’t being treated differently than people in other fields who violate such policies.

Question: why do you Bauer fanboys continually ignore the rest of the basis for the domestic policy suspension, and never talk about the other two victims, one of whom did get an injunction against Bauer?. I have never had a Bauer fanboy answer this question.

Crazy how all his fanboys and groupies slobber all over him as if he is a superstar or something. 10 years in MLB, and an ERA under 3.79 a whole 3 times. They are so impressed and excited over a Cy Young award after pitching a whole 11 games in a strike shortened season, and carry on like he’s Cy Young himself. Big deal. If the 2024 Cy Young award was handed out after 11 games pitched, Ranger Suarez would have been the runaway winner. How did he finish up the season?

For the most part Phillls, they are Bauer groupies for reasons other than baseball. If we could just pay someone to go out on a date with them it might help.

@boz – Tilting at the windmills of justice for those that have been unlawfully convicted and executed is one thing. There are so many miscarriages of justice out there to expend your energies on if you so desire.

The Bauer Groupies however are up in arms about a guy that has at least 4 different accusers of sexual violence and assault. And they are upset, not that he was convicted and sentenced in court without evidence, but that his highly paid and privileged job that has active professional conduct requirements no longer chooses to employ him. This controversial and, at the very least, rather ignorant ahole of a character.is no longer viewed as a good solution for teams that need positive profiles AND talent. Not only that, they are not losing out on Cy Young, but merely passing on a guy that had a few good years and a number of mediocre years.

In essence, in an arena where they pay extremely well for talent and results and positive public impressions to help build their fanbase, they made the very easy choice to pass on this guy.

It’s amazing how the Bauer fanboys and groupies just cannot comprehend this. They probably still won’t even after you just explained it all. You may have used too many big words for the typical fanboy to understand

The tide is not turning in the long run – it is merely that ignorance and stupidity and fear are always there, ready to be tapped into by thuggish pretenders. Those of you in the cult feel as if you won something as you revel in your echo chambers of lies and grievance, but the reality is that we all lost this battle.

Santa that year was drunk and looked like a homeless man. We booed him and threw snowballs at him because he was a real-life bad Santa, except it’s not funny when it’s not a movie and your kids think that’s Santa Clause. It wasn’t like oh there’s ol’ Saint Nick, screw that groomer let’s get him!
