Sherman On Oswalt, Harden, Yankees, Padres

By Tim Dierkes | July 30, 2010 at 2:40pm CDT

The latest from Joel Sherman of the New York Post:

  • Executives from other teams had no idea the Astros were willing to take on $11MM of Roy Oswalt's remaining $23.5MM.
  • The Mets have discussed Rich Harden internally.  He's a potential August trade candidate.
  • The Yankees have talked to the Rockies in search of a complementary bat, but discussions didn't go anywhere.
  • Officials from multiple teams are upset that the Rangers continue adding salary.
  • The Padres remain in pursuit of a lefty-hitting outfielder.  Sherman wonders if Kosuke Fukudome or Rick Ankiel could be fits.

I read the last bullet quickly and thought it said Koskie, as in Corey Koskie.

I’d actually rather see Venable out there then Fuko or Ankiel…. even if he strikes out alot when he gets hot … he is quite good. Pads are probably not trying to spend any money so that makes it tough to make huge move… Lets hope they surprise us though

This is omar saying “Guys don’t worry we will make a trade… after a huge series with the braves and phillies and possibly after we are out of contention… The good news is he has a 10 era and has been hurt all year.. oh wait.”

Once again, we all see a major pitcher traded and assume a better return could have been gotten, and once again we see “WTF? They were willing to do THAT?” quotes from other executives. Sometimes the peanut gallery really does know better than the GM. Especially when that GM is Ed Wade.

Wow Rich Harden is their answer to the Phillies Roy Oswalt??? Seriously Idk how much longer I can be a Met fan…I wish they would have fired Omar and got Showalter but obviously there was a 0% chance that would have happend.

“Officials from multiple teams are upset that the Rangers continue adding salary.”

Wonder if these same officials will be upset if prospects like Josh Lueke and Michael Main — players the Rangers were forced to include in deals so the other teams would pick up most of the salaries — turn into productive major league players in two or three years. Probably not, since most of them will be out on their a*% because they didn’t have the balls to pull off any deals themselves.

Exactly. It is sour grapes coming from the AL East teams for the most part. Heaven forbid that a team that has overcome the distraction of this ownership FUBAR be allowed to improve themselves and be competitive. The Yanks weren’t so squeamish about taking A-Rod off the Rangers hands and making the Rangers pay a big chunk of his contract to play in NYC. The Red Sox are still fuming about that Gagne trade.

You really think that it’s just the AL East and it’s because of the trades that the Rangers made with the Yankees and Red Sox? It’s all of the 29 other teams who aren’t happy about this since they are basically giving the Rangers money to be better. If the Rangers should be able to do this then so should every other team in baseball.

Pads talking to Seattle about Milton Bradley, if Seattle will pay all but 1 Mil of his contract for this year and next for 1 of their top AA pitching prospects. His numbers are terrible I hope this is’nt true, Hacksaw hamilton just announced it
