The latest buzz out of the AL East…
- A few teams are asking the Red Sox about infielder Jed Lowrie, tweets Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. The Braves are not in the picture for Lowrie, notes Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.
- The Rays are telling teams they will talk about center fielder B.J. Upton, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney, but they have to be overwhelmed to move him. Upton has one year remaning before free agency.
- Rays manager Joe Maddon told reporters he's very confident of getting a contract extension, and he's had talks with the team.
- The Orioles are receiving plenty of interest in righty Jim Johnson, reports MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli, but they don't seem intent on moving him. The Orioles are undecided on whether to use Johnson as a starter or reliever next year, manager Buck Showalter told reporters today.

Lowrie would be a nice fit for the Giants!
Guest 5863
Perhaps, to keep their medical staff occupied.

Lowrie & a prospect for Kung-Fu Panda?
not_brooks
Red Sox fan?
Tko11
Gotta make light of the situation!

Good one! lol

Swing and a miss

No room for a Panda in the Sox locker room. They dont eat chicken or drink beer.
brian mcgahan
This guy busting out some new, original material.
Tko11
Relax, Im a Red Sox fan anyway…just informing you on a Pandas diet.

Bom, Bom, Bom, Bom….BBBAAAAAAHHHHHH

Cain available?
Ok, while that was sarcasm could you envision a Cain/Youk swap? Obviously require more pieces and some logisitics. Boston would need a short term third baseman, the Giants would need to figure out if Huff could be sold for more than pennies on the dollar or if he could spend more time in the OF… But it would give Boston the pitcher they need and the Giants weren’t exactly known for their on base skills last season.
not_brooks
I can’t imagine Youk with an NL team.
Seems like he’s been injured about 4000 times in the past two or three years.

Whats the going rate for Lowrie? Cheap inconsistent middle reliever?
John Gage
Lowrie + low level prospect to Tigers for Porcello. Tigers need to fill holes in the infield and the Sox need a #5. Tigers would then sign a #4/5 pitcher and bring up Turner.
j6takish
Everyone in this thread is horrendously overstating the trade value of Jed Lowrie
chico65
I’m simply amazed that we’re 16 posts in at the time I am typing this and no one, as of yet, has made an offer of fried chicken or beer for him…
Oilcanoworms
Jed is a good player. Yes, he’s been hurt some, but he’s solid in the field and with the bat.
Brandon E.M. Savage
As long as that “low level prospect” is the 5 top prospects in the Sox farm system…
brian mcgahan
5 top prospects for Rick Porcello? And your calling another proposal crazy?
Brandon E.M. Savage
I countered one ridiculous proposal with one that is slightly less ridiculous…
brian mcgahan
Are we really arguing levels of ridiculousness now? Humans are doomed. Both proposals were dumb, no one wins.
Lookouts400
Humans aren’t doomed, at least not yet. But, if someone signs Manny Ramirez…..
Jeff 31
Maybe the Braves really are going to give Pastornicky the job. I wouldn’t blame them, the options at SS are expensive and Pastornicky will either do the job, or you can mid-season trade for a SS.
Matt Scola
Jed Lowrie can rake when given the opportunity, just so happens when he gets an opportunity he gets hurt… Maybe the Sox can sell Lowrie as a 2b to the Marlins and flip him and a few prospects for Hanley…. Wishful thinking…
Jon Stark
I really don’t understand the logistics of that proposal. Who is flipping who?
sam_lammert
I think Johnson would be a great fit with the Cards
Lookouts400
Johnson would be a great fit for a lot of teams. Who do you send east?
sam_lammert
why would you have to send anything east?
Lookouts400
You said Johnson, and I’m guessing you mean Jim Johnson, would be a great fit for the Cardinals. I hope you don’t think the Orioles will just give him away. Who do you send to Baltimore in exchange for Johnson? I didn’t think that was that hard of a question.
sam_lammert
wow, i don’t remember why i posted it on this thread, it doesn’t make much sense…i was referring to kelly johnson…odd
Lookouts400
I was referring to the relief pitcher, Jim Johnson, who was mentioned in the headline. I never even thought about Kelly Johnson, though I agree, he would be a nice fit for the Cardinals. And for the Orioles, too. Anyway, my bad.
sam_lammert
haha no my bad, i don’t even know why i commented about him, he wasn’t mentioned, but like you said about jim, kelly would be a great fit for a lot of teams
BK
Callapso for Lind and/Or Drabek?
Fstuffup
Seriously? That is the most stupid trade ever
Jon Stark
pretty big difference between the “and Drabek” and “or Drabek.” Plus the angels really don’t need another 1B DH type.
Brandon E.M. Savage
I can’t imagine why anyone would have interest in Callaspo…
NYBravosFan10
ummmm…good to know? Didn’t even know we were connected with Lowrie.
dc21892
It’s most likely come up before when JJ was rumored to be on the block.
Jon Stark
I like Callaspo too. What’s not to like? The question is how much would the angels ask in return.
Jose_Bautista
If he comes cheap, I don’t mind it.
Definitely don’t want to give up a good prospect for him.
johnsmith4
At presents, Jerome Williams and Brad Mills appear to be Angels 4th & 5th starters with about $12m left in their budget. McGowan Litsch or Villanueva might get AA Callaspo. At worst, Brett Cecil.
nyr4life
hey rays, good luck getting bowled over for upton!
Onetimeaccount
Rather sign him to an extension anyways.
Ryan The Braves Fan For Life
He would fit the Braves needs
