Mets Close To Making Trade

By Luke Adams 2 | December 6, 2011 at 8:46pm CDT

8:46pm: The Giants and Mets are believed to be discussing a deal that would send Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez to New York for Angel Pagan, tweets Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. That would match up with the two-for-one rumors, and Torres and Pagan qualify as "change of scenery" players as well.

8:33pm: Hot on the heels of their agreement with Jon Rauch, the Mets have a multi-player trade in the works, tweets MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter) describes the deal as a "change of scenery" trade both ways, and says the Mets are going to receive two players in exchange for one. Joel Sherman of the New York Post (Twitter link) hears that the move will net the Mets another reliever.

(But seriously, who could they be trading that would be need a “change of scenery”? Jason Bay?)

Bay has a chance to perform and return to his old power form if he ever got out of Citi Field, where HR go to die. Rios is what he always was.. An over paid fringe player.

oddly enough it could very well be that….I would be the sox would probably have to throw in beckham, which As a sox fan I would honestly be ok with…money is very similar….bay is owed more per year but rios has one extra year on the deal

I, personally, don’t think that the player being traded by the Mets is Murphy (Mets value him too much) or Wright (trade value is too low; if traded it will be at the earliest next season’s trade deadline).  The only two players I can think are due a change in scenery are Jason Bay (highly doubtful; he can net more at the trade deadline along with David) and Mike Pelfrey (Mets fans will tell you he can use a change of scenery ASAP).

EDIT: Wow, Pagan is the trade candidate? I’m quite shocked.

If it is Pagan then that would force Belt and Huff to Platoon at 1st/outfield base because i dont think you’re going to get rid of Nate Shierholtz in right field (defense).  Either way i think its a good deal for both teams with the other team (Mets) coming out on the upside, but whats new?  Pagan’s obp, and slugging have all gone down the past 3 years.  The only thing i find interesting in Pagan is his stolen bases, but how can you steal bases when you dont get on base?  Torres and Ramirez are worth more than Angel Pagan but at least the giants are getting SOME offense i guess?

If you are going to trade for Wright you better start with Top Prospects, not the fringe Major Leaguers most of you are suggesting. Mets are in rebuild mode when it comes to trading, not let’s get by mode.
