Sandy Alderson told reporters that it's fair to assume the Mets won't sign free agents who cost more than $1.5MM before Spring Training, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. The GM also explained that teams generally have "a greater reluctance to make a big deal" as Spring Training draws closer. Here are more details on the Mets:
- Alderson said he's looking to fill out his bench and bullpen, according to Rubin. The GM said he wants a backup shortstop and a "swingman" for the pitching staff.
- Alderson recently met with free agent Chris Young in San Diego, according to Rubin. "He's the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances," the GM said.
- Johan Santana is in a normal progression toward Spring Training, Alderson said.
- The Mets continue looking at Ronny Cedeno as a backup shortstop option, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets.
- The Mets aren’t likely to attempt to re-sign Willie Harris after agreeing to terms with Scott Hairston earlier today, Andy Martino of the New York Daily News tweets.

i forgot about johan santana
The Mets can do without Ronny Cedeno and his lazy work ethic. They have enough issues already…
Thank god you and your rap career are not one of them!
Signing Milledge insures an extra five wins…trust me. High five!
That picture must have been before all the hype was gone. High Five in Tokyo!!
Absolutely, as long as you don’t get hurt in that circus…
(Yes I feel the picture deserves an encore)
Johan Santana..whose he?
One of the nastiest pitchers of this generation.
The last Ace pitcher the Twins had since Frank Viola
I hope Santana comes back strong and healthy i miss seeing him pitch.
My favorite pitcher to watch in the last decade. Not gonna lie though, I’ve been cheating on him with Kershaw since the injury…
Halladay is my fav to watch. Cant go wrong with either haha
I still go with Johan. I love changeups….its a pitch that only works cause your in the other guy’s head
Halladay has a change up , he just doesn’t need it lol
Well, Johan cheated on his wife…so it’s all good.
nothing to remember anymore or look forward to anyway for him. Once you go to the Mets your careers over just look at the history. As much as i love baseball i hate how this team can destroy players careers. (johan,Bay,Delgade,Castillo,Krod,v-zambrano,oliverperez,lists goes on and on)
Johan had 2 good years, Delgado had an MVP season, Krod did what he usually does, zambrano wasn’t worth mentioning considering he was a nobody before he was a met and probably had his best stretch of baseball before he got hurt in a mets uniform, perez was good for half a season as a rookie, and castillo was over the hill. the only argument you have is bay really
You seem to be underselling Johan here. He had more than two good years. During his time with the Twins, he was baseball’s best pitcher. Not one of the best. THE BEST.
He meant two good years in NY…
V-Zambrano had a career at one point?
When I saw Cedeno I thought it was Roger Cedeno.
No Mets fan can read “Cedeno” and “Mets” in the same context without gagging.
There was a stretch where the Mets was full of has beens. i remember being maybe 8-9 years old and always telling my dad that the Mets were where good players went to die (ie- Mo Vaughn, Cedeno, Alomar, Ordonez, Glavine, Ordonez, Cone, Floyd)
LOL so true…But many of those players were just old to begin with
yeah but glavine just wanted to get his 300 wins. he didn’t care who he played for.
I wonder why MLB didn’t suspend Johan when he payed off that broad he sexually assaulted …
Is anyone else scared to see Santana back? i mean Mark Prior had the same injury and was never the same again…it will be awesome to have Santana back healthy but I really am scared to see what is going to happen to Johan (fingers crossed)
