Dodgers Designate Ramon Troncoso For Assignment

By Zachary Links | March 22, 2012 at 4:43pm CDT

The Dodgers announced that they designated right-hander Ramon Troncoso for assignment.  The move was made in order to reinstate Ronald Belisario from the restricted list.

Troncoso, 29, spent most of 2011 with the club's Triple-A affiliate, posting a 5.05 ERA with 6.5 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9 in 35 appearances.  Over the last four seasons, Troncoso has a 3.92 ERA with 6.4 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 175 games for the Dodgers' varsity squad.

Looks like another Joe Torre victim. He was solid in parts of 2008 and 2009…

Yawn. Trancoso was never better than mediocre, a born mop-up man if ever there was one. Don’t try to blame his mediocrity on anybody else.

He was a ground ball machine for two years and hasnt been healthy since. Sounds like Scott Proctor to me. There’s a correlation there somewhere.

Good luck finding a correlation. He pitched plenty of innings in the minors, just not well. Maybe one half-good season wasn’t enough to say that he has enough to stay.

Two years? More like two months. Even in his 2009 season, he stunk it up after mid-July.

Magnum P.I. was my favorite Ronald P Bellisario show.

Bellisario is certainly a benefactor of being a cokehead (without a having coke problem, according to Bellisario) and being visa-stupid.  Losing a fastball with movement and a decent slider over the course of 2 years, add to that crappy winter ball numbers, I’d say today was a really good day for him.

Troncoso was fantastic for about 2 months in 2009, but has been absolutely terrible since. I’m glad they’re getting him off the roster, there are far better options (Belisario being just one of them).

I’m surprised he lasted as long as he did on the roster. Oeltjen will likely be next, although I’m still hoping he makes it if they don’t take Fields.

They have to take Fields. He’s one of the most underrated guys out there
