A few pieces of Nats news courtesy of Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post..
- General Manager Mike Rizzo says that the Nationals are unlikely to make any last-minute changes to their major league roster. Barring "something out of the ordinary," Rizzo says that any changes to the Opening Day roster will come from the players already in-house.
- Rizzo expects Andres Blanco to exercise his opt-out clause and become a free agent. The Nats reassigned the infielder yesterday.
- The Nationals hope to hang on to outfielder Jason Michaels after releasing him on Thursday. Rizzo would like to re-sign the veteran and place him with Triple-A Syracuse.
i think this is the first time andres blanco has ever exercised anything
OF: Morse, Ankiel, Werth, Bernadina, Carrol
IF: Zimmerman, Desmond, Espinosa, LaRoche, Lombardozzi, DeRosa
C: Ramos, Flores
SP: Strasburg, Gio, Zimm, Jackson, Lannan
RP: Gorzo, Detwiler, Mattheus, H-Rod, Burnett, Lidge, Clippard
My best guess at opening day roster(Storen on DL to start the year)
Morse will likely be on the dl for the beginning of the year. Nady or Tracy will make it.
Is Desmond still projected to be hitting leadoff? I’ll never figure out the fascination with that…..
No other real option. Desmond actually did okay in the leadoff spot after Davy put him there for good in the latter part of last year. We’ll see if it carries over.
Its because we have no one else. However, you’re right he isnt a very good fit
Unfortunately yes, but the Nationals don’t really have any better options.. though, I think Lombardozzi would be a better fit for lead-off
