Yankees Outright Esmil Rogers

By charliewilmoth | June 15, 2015 at 10:45pm CDT

MONDAY: Rogers has accepted his assignment, Feinsand tweets.

FRIDAY: The Yankees have outrighted righty Esmil Rogers, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News tweets. Rogers has not yet decided whether to accept the assignment, Marly Rivera of ESPN Deportes tweets.

Rogers pitched today and allowed four runs, only one of them earned, in two innings. The seeds of his outright had likely already been planted, however. For the season, Rogers has a 6.27 ERA, 8.5 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9, also allowing five home runs in 31 innings out of the Yankees’ bullpen. In parts of seven seasons (in which he’s also pitched for the Rockies, Indians and Blue Jays), Rogers now has a 5.60 career ERA, and he’s now 29. His good fastball and ability to start (he made 20 starts with Toronto in 2013) will likely continue to earn him chances, however.

This came about a month too late. Better late than never, though.

Agreed.. Carpenter has a way better chance of turning his season around..

He set up kimbrel for crying out loud ! Plus he has a very good fastball with a nasty curve. Joe didn’t use him a lot which made him getting the feel for his curve impossible

That’s kind of the way it is with relief pitchers. They have to come out of the gate with their stuff working or they are of no use to the team.

Not true. Girardi used Carpenter 9 out of the last 20 games that he was on the team. It just wasn’t working.

I don’t get why people think riding themselves of Carpenter was any worse of a decision. Rogers being bad doesn’t take away from Carpenter being essentially just as bad for them.

Yep he probably will. Was hoping they’d get rid of Rogers first, but I guess that isn’t really relevant now.

Why did they keep him around so long? Wasn’t he just a waiver wire pickup from the Jays last year?? You would think if the Blue Jays were casting pitchers off they would be just about worthless..

Sometimes one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Heck even the $250 million Dodgers had to use David Huff and Scott Baker this season start games (both whom have been dropped by the Yankees in the past)

It was reported before the game that Santos is already in Baltimore. If that is true, gotta figure he’s replacing Rogers.

Good, Esmil fails even as a mop up guy.

It’s been a bad couple of weeks for Rockies castoffs. Before Rogers, we had DFAs for Alex White, Jordan Pacheco, Eric Young Jr., and Tommy Field. If I were Rob Scahill or Franklin Morales I’d be getting worried.

The era of yousmell Rogers is finally over, thank god !!!! They dfa carpenter asap but kept this human white flag around for 1/3 of the season. Just give Capuano his long man/mop up role and call up pinder for now

How about the Yankees go after Ernesto Frieri. He was just released DFA’d by Tampa Bay and he’s struggled as of late, but I could see him thriving in NY like he did with the Angels. He’s 29 and would be a great addition to the bullpen to bridge middle relief to Betances-Miller.

I have no idea how Frieri looked this year, but I can tell you that last year a lot of his problems were mental. He looked and acted like he had no confidence whatsoever.

      Jose Ramirez.
      Seemingly always a mess.
Hopefully wrong – but he appears to implode.
      …not good for a pitcher.
      simply – not good.

Please try again – Mr. Cashman.
