12:08pm: New York is talking with Detroit about Cespedes, Rosenthal tweets. At this point, he’s one of many options, per the report.
12:05pm: As previously reported, the Mets are open to numerous outfield possibilities as the trade deadline approaches. The club has some concern that outfielder Michael Cuddyer “may not be back,” Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (Twitter links), which certainly would appear to add a new component to the decisionmaking process.
The veteran had been expected to experience only a relatively short DL stint. It’s not entirely clear, though, what the new issues are that are referenced by the report, or what kind of absence might be expected.
Per Rosenthal, the names currently being considered by New York include not only the oft-discussed Jay Bruce (Reds), Yoenis Cespedes (Tigers), Justin Upton (Padres), and Will Venable (Padres), but also Rajai Davis of the Tigers. Davis is a speedy right-handed hitter who is capable of playing center field, where Rosenthal says the team has real concerns about incumbent Juan Lagares (who fits a similar general profile).

Marlyn Byrd and Jay Bruce

Byrd would serve no purpose. Granderson/Cuddyer/Lagares/Bruce/Conforto. No room for Byrd.

Davis profiles like too many OFs the Mets have/had. They need a slugger-type like Bruce or Cespedes.

Mets just need to get the bat already. Seems like they’re being extremely stingy and giving other teams headaches when trying to do trades. I’m a Mets fan and I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up getting burned and left with nothing.

Why are the jays linked to this? Am i missing something.

How hard is it to move Murphy to a contender? Get some prospects back in return and involve the Reds and get Phillips and Chapman while giving up said prospects and Wheeler.

Rajae Davis. Are we kidding. We need real talent.

I seriously dont understand the Mets. They want talent but want to give up nothing in return. If they want controllable players they are going to have to give up talent to acquire it. Productive bats are scarce these days.

Who aren’t the mets interested in? It’s funny the mets don’t want Bruce because of his inconsistencies get wheel has been talked about as being the piece coming back to the reds and he’s coming off TJ surgery.

Exactly, the Mets do not want to spend money and are bottom feeders. If there is anything left over at 11:59 and if there are no other good offers on the table then they will try to swoop in. This is nothing but another ponzi scheme for the Wilsons. I am interested to see how the Mets front office tries to “save face.” tomorrow morning. You can always count on Alderson for some good BS to cover his owners ass (i.e. Gomez has a bad hip).

The Mets are pretty terrible at this.
