The Marlins have financial flexibility….That being said, I would agree with the notion that its not smart to pay for pitchers on big deals. That shouldnt matter b/c there are plenty of options that wont require that type of a deal.
Marlins need at least 2 SPs and 3 bullpen arms. Of those bullpen arms, they desperately need someone that can get lefties out, and someone that can pitch at the backend of the bullpen. Trading Sam Dyson for no reason definitely hurts, considering we already needed help in the bullpen before we traded him for a scrub backup catcher b/c he sort of looks like prince fielder.
John Lackey, Scott Kazmir, Hisashi Iwakuma, Brett Anderson, Wei-Yin Chen, Yovani Gallardo, Doug Fister should all be in their price range, with the money they should have to spend with so little committed money on the books, and they should all be available on shorter term deals.
We have no trade assets, and have absolutely nothing coming from the minors. Therefore, we need to add something in free agency. As I’ve said a few times, it looks like they’re definitely going to move Ozuna for 25 cents on the dollar for something they already gave away last year, opening a hole in the OF

completely agree with this. If they spend money I hope its on the offensive side and then possibly target those mid range SP like you listed.
If Ozuna’s value was where it should be he would be an attractive trade chip but I doubt they get a reasonable return unless they give up prospects in addition

Loria is the major reason the marlins keep experiencing failure. He needs to butt out off the baseball ops and let the FO do their jobs.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Marlins go for another splash this offseason.
I think the only “sell” the marlins make would be Ozuna basically due to mistreatment but that also hurt his overall value. I could see Indians and White Sox as options possibly Salazar or Quintana with 1 or 2 additional prospects, depending on their skillsets, going to the Indians and Sox
