Blue Jays Acquire Arnold Leon

By Jeff Todd | January 5, 2016 at 1:19pm CDT

The Blue Jays have acquired righty Arnold Leon from the Athletics, Oakland announced via press release. Toronto will send cash or a player to be named to the A’s.

Leon, 27, was designated recently by Oakland. He reached the majors for the first time last year, putting up 26 1/3 innings of 4.39 ERA pitching with 6.4 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9. He has averaged better than one strikeout per inning at Triple-A over the last several years, though he’s also permitted more than four free passes per nine at that level.

Acquiring more scrubs from baseballs worst bullpen last year doesn’t seem wise.

I didn’t see the part of the article where it says he’s to be the new #1 starter for them. Can you show me?

      It’s depth, nothing more. Relax.

You appear to be the one heated here, I just said it doesn’t seem wise to acquire horrendous baseball players.

So you should “relax” here, instead.

Be EZ on him. “Just another Fan” is the sensitive type, but likes to call people names. He also thinks that a guy that hits .289 1Hr in rookie ball in 83 AB’s should get a 2016 call up.

I don’t think that is a bad acquisition for minor league depth. That will make there minor league bullpen better

Obviously the Jays and A’s professional executives don’t think so. But what do they know? They’re just paid to determine that kind of stuff right? They should definetly take advice from a random people who comment on sports websites.

It seems the A’s executives don’t see it your way as they gave him away for a few dollars before cutting him. Just cause Toronto traded for him doesn’t automatically mean they are smart and he is good. They are taking a chance and a guy that walks 4/9 is crap no matter how many teams take a chance on him.

Random people? No as an A’s fan I watched Leon along with most of the A’s BP blow games on a constant bases. Now he will be going to Toronto. Yes probably start in the minors. But his numbers will be even worse once he pitches in Rogers Centre

You know that Swanson will Get a Sept Call up in 2106 after dominated rookie ball!

I replied to this comment on another article. If you think there is no way Swanson will get a September callup this year just look at Trea Turner. He was drafted in 2014 and received a September callup this past year. Granted, “dominated” is quite an overstatement but he is an extremely polished college player. Schwarber was another one that made it up recently the year after he was drafted. He is another beast entirely though because he was drafted for his bat. 22 year old college players generally don’t require much time in the minors unless they are being taught a new position and Swanson is said to be sticking at short.

If I’m not mistaken, Turner, Schwarber, excelled to higher levels right after the draft. Both showed some PWR also. I never said it couldn’t happen, but the others guys showed WAY more right out the gate.

Shark was the A’s best pitcher after that trade IMO. Hammel ended up pitching some good games to towards the end. That trade was good for the idea at the time.

Really? Playoffs don’t mean anything? As opposed to finishing in last place? W a SS who led the league in errors. You don’t really believe, do you?

The good thing is Beane did a redo on the trade and ripped off the white sox on the shark deal. There is no trophy for finishing 4th best team in baseball but for a cubs fan that is a big deal.

@baseballrat you really should go look at who else were involved in trades before you open your mouth. Bassit and Phegley alone were worth far more Shark’s 4.96 ERA the White Sox got. Semien only committed 7 errors the second half of the season. Look to him to cut his errors in half next season while hitting 15+ HR.

I know exactly who they in the trade. Funny thing about #’s is that you dice them to look anyway you want. Simien had a better 2nd 1/2, the other two guys r Bavg Ml players. It was an OK Trade for the A’s.

4 walks per 9 is troubling to say the least. Toronto needs to go get Bastardo or trade for a better reliever if they want to improve their bullpen. IMHO Toronto has the worst bullpen in the AL East and with their aging sluggers and injury prone team I put them last in the division for 2016.

i have read several of your posts.

Your comments on this site are being seen as being silly, showing ignorance rather than knowledge, contempt rather than appreciation for the game of baseball.

Negation is a not; a minus sign; a lack of things; a deficiency of something such as intelligence, even emotional stability. Most people use it to cry out for attention and help.

are you alright? if you are feeling bad, or need help, maybe you could call the children’s hotline in your area; they will gladly assist you, before you do harm to yourself, or worse,do harm to others?
