I wish Steve well, he should be a great fit for the Rays.
The O’s just simply did not have a spot for him this year.

It’s bottom feeding time in baseball. The big fish are gone and everyone is hoping to catch a small one that might be good. If not….toss it back.

He actually hit better against RHP last year 196 .266 .357 .623. the year before no .327 .405 .704 1.109 . More career homers against RHP

Wow good pickup by the Rays still wish the Orioles would have resigned him

Good sign by the Rays who gives the potential of a decent power bat that has possibilities of a comeback and seems Duquette missed his chance at resigning.
Does give the Rays a 10m doorstop at the end of the bench in Loney, who is of as much use as would be Casey Kotchman if he tried a comeback.. Only Kotchman would probably end up with league minimum, what Loney is worth as a can’t hit/all glove player, then for some reason they took on LoMo, then decided to tender him a contract and Pierce has a better chance to produce.
Have to wonder what is going on in Tampa since Friedman left with a team that doesn’t have much money. They sure waste a lot on guys now.

How are they wasting money if it was a good signing and the guy you refer to as a door stop was signed by Friedman?

I was going to fix that.. Edit no longer works. I really meant just trading for LoMo and then giving him 4m anyway.
The deal with Friedman should have never been given. loney never really has hit since his early LAD days, except for 1 outlier season with TB. His singles only and non walking is shown with his ultra low OPS, why mentioned Kotchman. Having only a glove really means nothing, except as a bench defensive insert. Napoli at least gives a power option and superior glove at 1st and he draws walks.
Pierce was a solid sign, kind of hopeful reclamation David Dejesus was, who never could really comeback, but solid hopeful nonetheless.
GoBraves
Friedman got Loney.

He can hit, just doesn’t have any power.

Nice pick up by the Rays. I have sort of written them off due to their offense, but if Pearce can rebound that will help the batting order.

Hope Pearce does well. Enjoyed watching his career progression as he, Nyjer Morgan and Tyke Redmon were, in my opinion, the “prospects” that seemed to be capable MLB players in the end of the Pirates’ dark ages and signaled that maybe the organization was starting on the right track to being able to develop useful, quality players.

Typical Rays block buster signing. This guy can only hit the Rays so looks like his career is over. :-).

The Rays have now outspent the Yankees in the free agency market.

Solid player but not worth resigning for the Orioles. Hope the best for him in Tampa. Not sure he’ll get to the top of those incentives.
