Braves To Re-Sign Eric O’Flaherty To Minor League Deal

By charliewilmoth | December 6, 2016 at 4:21pm CDT

The Braves have agreed to a deal to re-sign veteran lefty Eric O’Flaherty to a minor league deal, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation writes (Twitter links). O’Flaherty is a client of MVP Sports Group.

The 31-year-old O’Flaherty struggled in 2016 in Atlanta, posting a 6.91 ERA, 6.9 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 28 2/3 innings. He was one of baseball’s better lefty relievers from 2009 through 2012, then had Tommy John surgery in 2013. After a promising return in 2014, though, he has struggled with slightly diminished velocity and control issues. Perhaps promisingly, he retains a very high ground-ball rate, with a 54.0 GB% in 2016.

If we’re going to keep doing this then my aunt is friends with Yadier molinas brother Benjis wife so she used to get suit tickets whenever Texas came to Seattle while Benji was their first base coach.

When Cal Ripken owned the Augusta Green jacket’s here my girlfriend waited on him at her work. She knew I was also an Orioles fan also,. but of course didn’t tell me until she got home from work.

Man I am glad the Braves didn’t make that move for Sale and for all you wack arm chair fake gms the Braves as a lot of teams coulda knocked that offer out the park.
With the White Sox selling Sale for 4 minor leaguers albeit the top prospect in baseball being one of them. But the rest of the deal seems weak. Are they in full mode fires ale and if so what would the Braves have to give up for Quintana ? Newcomb, Mallex & Wentz get it done ???? How bout Touki, Soroka & Peterson ??? Archer’s price had to drop and the A’s probably taking Sonny Gray right off the block because it wouldn’t even be worth it to sell that low on him. Gonna be a very interesting next couple days.

Braves would have paid a lot for a guy who plays once a week. They have the rebuild going well and at full force. No reason to scrap the plan now

Dude don’t take this personally, but you are embarrassing to other Braves fans like myself. You mentioned fake armchair GMs and you happen to fit that mold perfectly. The worst part is you never even propose halfway decent trades. They are always either giving up way too much or way too little. I’m afraid you really don’t know that much about baseball. Please just chill with the trade proposals. Braves country begs you!

Would you have traded a haul for sale?

Exactly but if that’s all Sale was able to haul in I am more than willing to meet the White Sox asking price.
    1. With Anderson & Moncada holding down the middle infield they won’t need Albies.
    2. With only taking minor leaguers they seem to be going all in rebuild so Inciarte’s service time says he maybe on the way out when they are ready to compete so Mallex may seem more appealing.
    3. The Braves deepest strength is low minors SP with an abundance of it at that.
I didn’t like going after Sale but I think they should go hard for Quintana but deem Albies & Swanson untouchable.

They will still ask for Swanson and Albies. Just because you have good guys at those positions in the minors doesn’t mean you don’t still go after more. I’d love to have Quintana as well, but I know there’s no way they don’t still ask for one or both in trades in addition to the young starters.

I disagree they can ask but they know they won’t get one if they didn’t get one of them for Sale. I hope they go hard.

Yes they can ask and yes the Braves will say no. And then the Sox will say fine then no deal. That’s what I’m saying. So stop proposing stuff that will never happen. And trust me I wish you were right, but your not.

Beat me to it, was going to say the Sox can still decline. With the RSox adding Sale, maybe Texas or Houston are willing to overpay for Quintana. I do agree they should be interested in young pitching prospects, but Houston can offer that as well as more batting prospects. Ie they can add Martes to Kopeach, they have two young highly ranked prospects coming up behind Rodon. They’d want to add some of the Stros young batters I think.

The Braves got the deepest farm system in baseball they could get him without having to give up either of them. The Sale trade says total rebuild you mean to tell me the Braves couldn’t offer up 2-3 pitchers + and make it happen ???
And who is the Astros offering Bregman please Houston would laugh at that. No Braves fan wouldn’t offer Touki, Soroka, Wiegel & Mallex for Quintana and the White Sox wouldn’t take that after what they just took for Sale ?
Please all these teams wouldn’t give up their top guys for Sale none of them giving them up for Quintana either. That’s where the Braves depth trumps other organizations. They can offer better quality in the quantity to get him.
Boston got that deal with Moncada now he projects better than Albies and maybe Swanson as well but the Sox got Bogarts, Mookie, Pedroia, JBJ, Beninidi they had offensive depth to make that deal the Braves got SP depth let an Eaton deal or an Abreau deal bring back some offense. Wouldn’t a rebuilding team want to make a deal with a team that attacks their strengths ??? Well there is no team with young SP strength than the Braves.

He’s 31, it’s a minor league deal, and you can never have enough pitching. You can however have enough attitude, which is evident by your post.

Veteran presence for the young guys in the minors. If he comes back to form ( which i doubt) then they could plug him into the Atlanta bullpen. Stricly mentoring move here.
