Mets Designate Adam Wilk, Add Tommy Milone To Active Roster

By Jeff Todd | May 8, 2017 at 5:15pm CDT

5:21pm: New York has added southpaw Tommy Milone to its active roster, per Mike Puma of the New York Post (via Twitter). He was claimed recently off waivers from the Brewers.

5:15pm: The Mets have designated lefty Adam Wilk for assignment, according to Anthony DiComo (via Twitter). The 29-year-old had just been called up to make his first appearance for the Mets in the wake of Matt Harvey’s suspension.

Wilk was asked to step into a tough spot after a huge amount of travel, and it showed in the results. He was tagged for five earned runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. Over thirty total MLB frames, stretching back to 2011, Wilk owns a 7.20 ERA with 21 strikeouts against eight walks. Over parts of six campaigns at Triple-A, the southpaw has compiled a 4.15 ERA with 7.0 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 over 663 frames.

Not first MLB appearance. First appearance in about 5 years, but not MLB debut.

Yeah I changed that as soon as I checked his stats. My mistake.

He had that lone appearance in 2015 with the Angels. Fun fact is that he was one of two players to wear 42, and only 42 for that season. Both he and Garret Olson on the Yankees, appeared in only one game that season and it was on Jackie Robinson Day.

Thanks to him for taking one for the team. Put in an impossible situation, set up to fail, and he did his best without (as far as I know) complaining. And DFA’d as his thanks. Hope he gets some real time up, and does well later in 2017.

For anyone who complains about players walking in free agency for more money – this is the reason why. Clubs treat their players like cattle. Those that are lucky enough to reach six years service deserve all the rights that go with it.

At Tuesday morning’s news conference Sandy became defensive when the press started to criticize the club for the mishandling the situation. Jeff Wilpon joined him and became testy as well as he stated,”We treated him really well. I know the flight here was a bit bumpy, however after he got knocked out we treated him to a nice lunch at Laguardia and got him an upgrade to anComfort Plus seat in his flight back”.
