Angels Acquire Nick Franklin

By Jeff Todd | June 30, 2017 at 5:31pm CDT

The Angels have acquired infielder/outfielder Nick Franklin from the Brewers, per a team announcement. He had been designated for assignment; the deal sends cash or a player to be named later to Milwaukee.

The Halos’ plans for the versatile Franklin aren’t immediately clear, though he will be heading to the active roster as he is out of options. That will most likely be easier to assess when the club makes a corresponding move to open a roster spot, which hasn’t yet occurred.

Franklin, who’s still just 26, hasn’t hit much this year, with a .195/.258/.317 slash in his 89 plate appearances for Milwaukee. But he hit much better (.270/.328/.443) in reserve duty last year and was long regarded as a quality prospect before he reached the majors.

This move makes absolutely no sense. He is no better than what the Angels have now.

I don’t know if you have watched any angels games as of recent but they’re playing very well with the roster full of players just like this.

Which is exactly why this move makes no sense. His bat is worse the Espinosa’s. And isn’t as good as a defender. Unless they added him to flip to a team looking to get rid of a bad contract.

          Danny’s OPS is 537. Nick’s is 576.

And as I say this .. Espinosa pops up to the damn catcher with simba on 3rd and 1 out.

Yeah I actually watch the games

They Angels when Dipsnot took over as GM of the Angels had a top 15 minor league system. With in 2 years under Dipsnot they were dead last. When he Mariners they had a top 10 minor league system. Now they have one of the worst.

Dipoto turned the organization upside down by depleting the farm system and losing the respect of his clubhouse.

Ryan anyone who thinks Dipsnot is a good GM never paid attention to the trades he made with the Angels.

I’ll give dipsnot credit for getting lucky on a few trades such as getting street and gott for a few minor leaguers, Skaggs and Santiago for trumbo and heaney for Kendrick

Ok let not blame the gm Artie Marino doesn’t want spend money anymore he trusted Jerry DiPoto by signing Albert Pujols CJ Wilson in Hamilton we got noting out of it . Jerry DiPoto didn’t get long with Mike Scioscia . That why he not here Eppler has done a good job I think but he need to turn the page on Mike trout we can get 5 guy for him and rebuild the form system don’t get me wrong I think he the best in baseball but went his contract is up he not stay here cause Artie not spend the money to keep him and if he did we wouldn’t put the money to build a line up to help him so let get the 5 for 1 we got 5 pitcher with arm problems it just sad we can’t even make a trade to help us I been a fan since the 70s it suck cause Artie just like the cowboy Gean not spend anymore sorry it the truth

Yeah, maybe they deal Yunel and use Franklin at 3B. Prob not satisfied with Marte at 3B though I don’t know why we wouldn’t give Cowart a longer look.

Then again maybe Eppler saw value and struck. He’s had a lot of success with the same tactic thus far

I was more a long the lines of flipping Franklin with Cron and prospects for a starting pitcher where a team knows that pitcher is gone after the season. Or just trying to dump payroll.

Didn’t the brewers get Franklin for free? I could be wrong on that, thought they got him off waivers for nothing. If so, to get anything for him is awesome, and honestly hilarious.

Maybe they release Espinosa and make Pennington the 2B for now so Franklin become Super Utility. He does play everywhere.

That is absolutely the only reason I can see for this move.

I think they should give Cowart 2b for the rest of the year.

DIPoto should take Jose Alvarez from us. His type of lousy pitcher.

This is just a giveaway trade. They’ll send
Cash or an org guy the Brewers could use. Eppler’s done a good job considering he had no minor league system to help.
