Minor MLB Transactions: 6/11/17

By charliewilmoth | June 11, 2017 at 6:14pm CDT

Here are today’s minor moves from around the game.

  • The Mets are the latest team to take a flier on righty Daniel Bard, signing him to a minor league deal, as SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo tweets. Bard was once a first-round pick and top prospect of the Red Sox, but the 31-year-old’s wildness has reached Rick Vaughn levels in recent seasons, as he’s posted BB/9 rates above ten in eight consecutive stops from the Majors to the minors to winter ball. The Cardinals released him last month after he walked 19 batters in 8 2/3 Double-A innings.

Unless the Mets also signed the world’s leading eye surgeon or best hypnotist (or both), I don’t expect to see Mr. Bard in Queens.

Can any of you guys ever recall someone that has been this bad, and received so many different opportunities??

This guy must have “it,” whatever it is, considering he is STILL able to convince multiple, highly educated, and different front office members to give him money and another opportunity…

It’s a minor league contract, he still throws hard, the team is out maybe 10k if he can’t figure it out. Brien Taylor, after his injury and his bout with the yips, pitched in parts of 5 seasons in the minors, in which he walked 185 batters in 111 innings.

I have pretty much come to the conclusion, Daniel Bard is either a.) one of the greatest con men still living, b.) he has some serious dirt on someone and is blackmailing the heck out of them…or c.) he is part cat…It has to be one of the three, just nothing else makes sense..

I remember his Red Sox days. The man threw effortless 98-99 heat and had a slider like Betances. Got squeezed in a big inning late in the 2011 collapse, lost confidence and command simultaneously and has never recovered. I hope he figures it out.
