Mariners Claim Cameron Perkins

By Jeff Todd | December 11, 2017 at 2:34pm CDT

The Mariners have claimed outfielder Cameron Perkins from the Phillies, the team announced and Devan Fink of SB Nation first tweeted. He had been placed on outright waivers recently. The move leaves the Phils with one open 40-man spot and the Mariners with three.

Perkins, 28, struggled badly in his first taste of the majors in 2017. But the 2012 6th-rounder had shown more at times in the minors. Over 295 plate appearances at Triple-A in 2017, he slashed .288/.374/.447. Though he hit just seven home runs, Perkins drew thirty walks against 47 strikeouts in that span.

Good depth just in case something happens to Heredia or (god forbid) Haniger. M’s needed a guy like this

Plays 4 positions and played 3B in college. Hit decently in the minors. Could be good depth.

Depth. Not every player acquired is made for the starting roster

Good on base ability last year in Triple-A. Probably won’t last on the 40-man, but if he does, he’s a good option to have from Tacoma.

Very DiPoto-esque claim. Not much of a ceiling, but hes a relatively safe bet to be a semi-valuable regular. BABIP numbers were very low last season in the majors .227

Sounds like we found our new #1 prospect since Jerry is bound to trade Lewis, Carlson and White for #5 starters that are worse than any free agent we could sign

I doubt it. I think we keep those top 3 guys and trade anything else. Plus those guys would garner far more than a #5 starter.

I know it’s a troll comment but cmon

For the love of Mariner baseball, I hope you are correct. I just miss Tyler is all.

Miss Tyler so much. That was the one that hurt the most.

Bad news, he exceeded rookie eligibility last season.
