The Braves have signed reliever Fernando Salas and outfielder Lane Adams to minor-league deals, according to an announcement by the club’s top affiliate. Both players are reporting to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Salas has turned in quite a few solid MLB innings over the years and will at least be a worthwhile depth asset to have on hand. The 33-year-old righty spent most of the early portion of this season with the Diamondbacks, allowing twenty earned runs in forty frames with 6.8 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9. He has engineered mid-season turnarounds in each of the past two seasons, but if he hopes to pull that feat off once again he’ll first have to earn a call-up.
As for Adams, he opened the year with the Braves. He hit well for the club at the MLB level over the past two seasons, but received limited action and was cut loose when roster pressures arose earlier this season. Adams ended up struggling quite a bit upon landing at Triple-A with the Cubs, so he’ll hope to get back in a groove back with the Atlanta organization.

They signed Cameron Rupp, too, according to the Baseball America transactions page.
bluejays92
Scratch that, it was Seattle.

Atlanta and Alex A. have no clue what they’re doing.
realgone2
and you base that on what?
daved
I base it on this ridiculous joke of OF options they keep going through to find that “perfect” 4th OF option. They had Bourjos TWICE. Now Adams,
TWICE. Tucker did well early, then they buried him. They are trying to play a utility IF, Culberson in the OF, and Now they hook their wagon to Danny Santana who isn’t good. Not to mention their bullpen sucks, yet they’ve done nothing to fix it.

Totally clueless orgainzation. that’s why they’re in line for a playoff spot with one of the best farm systems in baseball and packed with great young talent on the MLB roster as well. yep, they have no idea what they’re doing.
realgone2
So, you buried a GM and a entire organization based on the 4th outfielder and because they haven’t made a huge bullpen move? Talk about an over reaction. I can see why you are on here and not working for a major league front office.

and Lane returns
Knowthemarket
YES!! FINALLY the player that ties it all together and elevates the Braves. Salas got’s this! (Bad grammar intentional. Wouldn’t want those people who have nothing in the lives except correcting grammar to caste their pearls to swine)
fasbal1
Front words or backwards it’s still Salas
nymetsking
No, backwards it’s salaS

At what point do those jokes get old?
aussiegiants53
My thoughts exactly…

I mean. I’m glad to get Adams back for depth. Struggles might be there, but he clicked in the Atl. Salas is an ok signing. Not exactly what they need but it’s something that might put a little positive pressure on the bullpen. Maybe?
steelerbravenation
The Braves need a solid 4th OF type that can play all 3 spots and get rid of sorry Santana then 2 bullpen arms
Bring in Granderson, Soria, Duke & Archer
DVail1979
Bring in Archer? And what do you suggest Atlanta give up that Tampa would actually want enough to pry Archer away?
chrisones
Ummm….almost anything Atlanta has on any list. Archer is good, but he ain’t that good.
cmtaylor98
I actually think Adams can be the 4th OF, he hit well when given the chance, he can really run, and has some pop. He can be a nice player off the bench. I see no need in granderson, but soria, duke, & archer would work for me.
I would even try and get Archer & Eovaldi from the Rays. Eovaldi has always been tough to hit, and he could be dynamite as a late inning weapon,
southi
Definitely no on Archer and Eovaldi. Guys like Gohara, Fried, Allard, Soroka (when he comes back) and even Toussaint are just as likely able to put up similar stats as Archer and Eovaldi.
fabulous61
I hope you aren’t referring to the same Eovaldi as being hard to hit that gave up 9 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in only 2.2 innings against Minnesota Friday. I refer to that as Got Lit Up rather than Hard To Hit

If he’s so good, why did they dump him before?
chrisones
Have you met my friend Ronald Acunã Jr.?
elmore80
This will not go over well but we should move Acuna to CF and either platoon him with Ender or use Ender as 4th OF.We need a powerhitter in LF and maybe use ender as trade bait.

AA and dumpster diving !
its_happening
Expect that to be the norm with AA. But, no harm giving a guy like Salas a shot when arms can go down in an instant.
russ5tide
TrimReaper…….Your hatred of AA is beyond amusing at this point….haha
its_happening
What part of that comment was bagging on AA? Salas is a low-risk pickup with potential.
DVail1979
Every general manager bargain hunts … why the hate when AA does it
