Mets To Designate Chris Beck

By Jeff Todd | July 9, 2018 at 7:06pm CDT

The Mets have designated righty Chris Beck for assignment, Tim Healey of Newsday reports on Twitter. That creates a roster opening for the activation of lefty Jerry Blevins, who had been on the bereavement list.

Beck, 27, landed with New York in a mid-season waiver claim after opening the year with the White Sox. He has worked to a cumulative 4.50 ERA in 34 MLB frames on the season, his fourth-straight campaign with some time in the bigs.

Though the bottom-line results have been better this year than in prior efforts — Beck entered the season with a 6.38 ERA in 96 career innings — the 2018 showing has not really been all that promising. He has allowed eight long balls already on the year while handing out twenty walks against just 21 strikeouts.

Still waiting on an article on Poseys Injury situation. It’s rare to see MLB.com be faster than you guys at posting an article about something like this.

Hip inflammation he’s been playing through the entire season. Explains his lack of power. He’s missing the ASG, so justice for Yadi?

Both fine catchers. I’d rather watch ASG with healthy players. Good for Molina. His style reminds me of Pudge. TY for info.

Okay the Mets have about about two weeks to decide about their pitching situation and about seven to cut salary. Alderson picked up a half dozen relievers for their players last year, and we haven’t seen much out of them. They actually are in a worse position this year as the players they have to move are either slightly overpaid or have value on a rebuilding team. Take Flores for instance. Having a chance to play a lot hasn’t translated into good numbers but he can play all over the infield and is clutch. So while he’d be a fit to be traded, he’d probably net a reliever in A+ or AA. As a fan, I’d rather have Flores. At this point deGrom/Syndergaard, Familia, Wheeler and Cabrera are the only players on the club with any real trade value, with only the former two going to bring back anything close to major league talent.

Sox tried to sneak Beck through Waivers. Could see them grabbing him again.

Still have trouble understanding how Beck, an out of options righty with little to no success in the bigs, was claimed in the first place while Collins and Jorge cleared.
Not trying to sound like a troll, but I just get irritated when I see a very solid player clear, but a guy who really lacks too much upside like Deck McGuire, Preston Guilmet and this guy draw claims.
I guess its preference but I would perfer a roster spot used on a prospect than a Quad-A reliever who will provide replacement to below replacement level performance

    Congrats Chris Beck.
Not many players leave this team healthy.
