Blue Jays Outright Mike Hauschild

By Jeff Todd | September 7, 2018 at 10:55pm CDT

The Blue Jays announced today that they have outrighted right-hander Mike Hauschild. He will not have the right to elect free agency, having never previously been outrighted, but will qualify as a minor-league free agent at season’s end unless returned to the 40-man roster.

Hauschild, 28, was designated recently after signing a MLB deal with the Toronto organization in early August. He opened the season with the Astros but was released in mid-season, ultimately appearing in only two MLB games with the Jays. Previously, he made four relief appearances in 2017 with the Rangers, who had selected him in the Rule 5 draft but later returned him to Houston.

All of that is to say that Hauschild has tasted the bigs but hasn’t spent enough time there to tell us much. He has spent much of the past two seasons at Triple-A, struggling on the whole and this year posting a marginal 4.90 ERA with 7.8 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 119 1/3 innings. At times in the past, though, the former 33rd-rounder has turned in solid results in the upper minors.

    Lotsa comments says it all.

Mike Hauschild doesn’t belong in the Major Leagues on a championship caliber team.

Anyone remember the big feature Sportsnet did on him about how he arrived to the Jays just on time etc etc? The whole thing was a waste of time then and that was said at the time that he would go nowhere and didn’t belong in the bigs.

Definition of stupidity: spend all that time, money and people resources to claim, transport, pay, designate, produce a name for the uniform, feed the fans and Sportnsnet koolaid about him, do a sportsnet feature on him, then designate him. For what?

    Fire Atkins now please.

Mike is a AAA level minor leaguer.

Yes I remember Jimmer. That’s called Rogers telling their own TV staff to make their own baseball players look bigger and better than they actually are. Total koolaid. There have been plenty of under-25 arms in the minors (performing well) that deserved to be on the 40-man to showcase their talents at the big league level. Jays chose the waiver and old guy who sucks route.

After last night’s display by Shapiro I want him gone first. I’ll swing by the other article.

Can you do all Jays fans a favour and cheer for another team?

TO the best of my abilities, I am going to continue to hold Shapiro. Atkins, Sportsnet accountable for their folly.

I also cheer for the Yankees, will watch the Bosox, or Cardinals or Braves or Brewers.

Ah I see. Be Captain Positive like the local post-game hosts bringing opinions the players on the team cannot achieve. Let’s listen to people that do not want to face reality. Whether it’s Colby Rasmus being better than Adam Jones or Cory Lidle can win 20 games and whatever lies you want to believe. It should come as no surprise people are skeptical of the present and future because of path set force in the past.

If the Jays were perennial contenders year in and year out you’d have a case. Otherwise the truth hurts. Fans can’t live in a fantasy about the baseball team. That’s reserved for Maple Leaf fans.

lol, Smile of the day reading this……so true..I can’t take the false marketing “spin” anymore.

This crappy negative fan is correct about most of the BlueJay calls that I have made this year, only missed one or two, got 20 or 30 right though.

          > Colby Rasmus being better than Adam Jones

In the three years Rasmus was a Jay, Adam Jones won three gold gloves — despite compiling -11 DRS. One of those years, he won with a -13 DRS. His “best” GG year he had just a 3 DRS.

Someone is living a fantasy about Adam Jones, but it’s not Jays fans or Jays’ broadcasters.

Sportsnet isn’t the only news outlet to feature all players acquired and neither are the Jays. I’ve lived in multiple cities and every city/team does this. Don’t know what’s with the big complaint over a waiver pickup. It happens all the time on every team. Every team thinks they can fix another team’s players and waiver pickups also serve as stop gaps when the team isn’t ready to add their own kids onto the 40 man roster for a call up.

You have got to be kidding me….

A team in rebuild mode with players in the minors you have built up and yet we can’t complain about a crappy, late-20’s jobber? Before you answer, keep this in proper perspective; Sean Reid-Foley was brought up to replace Hauschild. So a young prospect was suddenly the right guy to bring up after the fact? If Reid-Foley was part of the plan there was no reason to bring in Hauschild or Drake in the first place.

        That’s complaint #1.

Complaint #2 is there are plenty of guys who can and should compete for one of the 12 pitching spots in 2019 within the organization. Bring one of them up. Team control? Yeah, that’s out the window thanks to the Reid-Foley promotion.

Complaint #3 – give players in your organization the confidence they can make your team. Nothing like performing AA and AAA players seeing failed, never-will-be older guys getting an opportunity while you bust your tail in the minors for peanuts. Rewarding the success in your system will go further than rewarding failure outside of your organization.

We can go on. Hope you understand where the complainers are coming from.

I thiink Reid Foley belongs learning in the big leagues. What we saw of him tonight is what he currently is. Sometimes he knows where the pitch is going but most of the time he doesn’t. Will he figure it out? Up here at the MLB level is the place to solve that question.

I think he can pitch like a #3 but he’ll settle in as a #4.

I can’t see this Jays Mgmt leadership core staying in place very much longer. Next years starting pitching staff might cause the team to win 40 games at best and then another 30 coming from the bullpen.

There really needs to be an upgrade in the professional scouting department of this club. I think they are okay with amateur scouting. Expect a mgmt shakeup before Christmas.

Agreed on Reid-Foley. He should have stayed up with the team and should get his feet wet.

Russell’s barber should be ashamed. When his back is turned he looks like the head trainer.
