Yankees Claim Hanser Alberto From Rangers

By Steve Adams | November 2, 2018 at 2:03pm CDT

The Yankees announced that they’ve claimed infielder Hanser Alberto off waivers from the Rangers. Their 40-man roster is up to a total of 37 players.

Alberto, 26, will give the Yankees a bit of infield depth after the loss of Didi Gregorius to Tommy John surgery last month. He’s far from a certainty to survive the season on New York’s 40-man roster, however, as he’s only a career .192/.210/.231 hitter through 192 plate appearances. On the other hand, Alberto hasn’t had much big league time to date and has been impressive in parts of four Triple-A campaigns, hitting .309/.330/.438 through exactly 1000 plate appearances. He has notable experience at every infield slot other than first base.

He’s had some really good seasons at Triple A in the past few years. Just needs to figure things out at the major league level.

He’s a top notch fielder but the Rangers just didn’t have room for him. Good luck Hanser!

nah we can sign ref and move Ref to C so that Sanchez can become 3B and we can move andujar to 1B so that we can move Ellsbury to DH and then move Stanton to Right-centerfield so we can move torres to SP

Like the sign but I really hope we give Tyler Wade one more shot to take SS until Sir Didi returns or at least platoon at SS with his left handed bat and high end speed. I’ve read multiple places that upper management loves Wade!

I would be fine with a Tyler Wade/Ronald Torreyes platoon in the infield until Didi comes back

They tried trading him in a package to Detroit for Fulmer. Wade isn’t very good

He needs a shot to find out if he’s good or bad. I’ll trust Yankees scouts over your opinion no offense.

But he hasn’t even done anything in the minors outside of one year…. he’s always been an overhyped backup infielder at best.

They have given him spots and he’s sucked both times.

Chill, he hasnt even hit 150 PAs in the bigs. Not everyone can skyrocket out the gate like Voit. You give Wade a bit more consistent of a role and you will see how good/bad he truly is. Him getting a few starts in the first couple weeks of the season while battling the flu is not a good way to demonstrate your true ability. It would be extremely unfair to judge him harshly for the small amount of play time he has had.

I’ve watched most of Wade’s ABs. He looks really overwhelmed by MLB pitching. I actually think the front office has moved on from Wade as their future super utility guy.

Alberto can play the whole infield. If y’all need a utility guy, he is a good fit.

Damn. Love Alberto. He’s never going to be a starter on a good team but the guy has fun. Never a bad thing to have on your squad.
