The latest minor league transactions from around baseball….
Latest Moves
- Per mlb.com’s transaction page on Dec. 14, the Dodgers have re-signed righty Daniel Corcino to a minor league pact. Corcino, 28, made two late-season appearances for Los Angeles last season after being a fixture in the AAA-Oklahoma City rotation for much of the year. The 5’11 righty was mostly excellent for the team’s chief affiliate, offering an 8.88 K/9 against 3.57 BB/9 with just 9 HR allowed in 103 1/3 IP, his first AAA exposure since 2013. Corcino, who made five appearances for the 2014 Reds, had worked mostly as a reliever since, appearing in 56 games at the High-A and Double-A levels from 2015-17.
- The Rockies have signed right-hander Jairo Diaz to a new minors contract, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. The deal, notably, doesn’t seem to include an invitation to the team’s big league Spring Training camp. That could be an indication that the Rox don’t want to pressure Diaz into trying to win a big league job and are simply focused on getting the injury-plagued righty on track. Diaz missed all of 2016 due to Tommy John surgery, and subsequent forearm and elbow issues have limited him to just five MLB innings in 2017 and 32 1/3 total innings in the minors over the last two seasons. Diaz did toss 30 1/3 IP in Venezuelan Winter League ball this year, so there is some sign of progress.

- The Dodgers have signed outfielder Shane Peterson to a minor league deal. The contract contains an invitation to the team’s Major League Spring Training camp. Peterson, who turns 31 in January, spent 2018 with the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate, and he has a .254/.319/.359 slash line over 322 career MLB plate appearances. The bulk of that action (226 PA) came with Milwaukee in 2015, and Peterson last appeared in the Show in 2017 when playing for the Rays. Peterson has seen a lot of work at all three outfield positions over his 11-year professional career plus substantial time as a first baseman, giving L.A. another versatile asset to deploy as a bench piece or as minor league depth.

.254 in the pcl isn’t impressive but his defensive background helps with depth

.286 in 2018

is there no right handed hitter that can do the same time.
gleybertorres25
It’s a minor league deal

Shane Robinson lol ( yes I know he signed)
Melchez
Another left handed OF/1B. Just what they need.
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
Their entire 2018 OF will basically will gone. It’s an milb deal, so yeah I would say they definitely need AAA OFs. Unless Garlick is going to man all three spots.

FO seems obsessed w LH hitters and pitchers

not much interest in this signing at this microsecond. Have to remember Muncy got text from Zaldi while he was home, no team, sitting on the couch. Dodgers can use an experienced OF’er as an emergency fill in, can’t hurt.
I have question for other Dodger fans or A’s fans about Muncy. I read he’s a charter member of the Dr. Strangeglove Pittsburg Steel society & all-star team. But while I know and am. pretty sure it would be a bad move even short term but to get a bat & glove (at 3rd at short) on the field setup with JT at 1st, please kbear with me, it’s just post New Year dull drums,Seager back at SS and Muncy at 2nd would make for a scary team at the plate even compared to 2018. No way the Dodger could justify Machado for the money the Phil’s or Yanks are sure to pony up,plus I really don’t want to see it given my take on Machado’s on field effort. still pure thought experiment would be that addition should Harper not end a thing.
my question is just how horrible is Muncy with that glove? I can’t watch pretty much any Dodger games so no idea of that experience. If he can keep. hitting and field as well as, say, Pete Rose (also not pretty with the glove in his day) I kinda wonder about moving Muncy to 2nd should a great right handed infielder fall at Dodgers feet…
and really this is not anything I can imagine any sane person would consider just something to kick around until we put it out of our misery…

Hard to follow your typos so not sure i’m even answering properly, but as a Dodger’s fan I watch about 150 games a year. Muncy is fairly athletic and plays an avg 1b defensively. They tried him at 3b and it was an epic fail. He had a small sample at 2b last season and it was below avg but not terrible. Personally, I think he needs to be a in better shape and 2b could be a possibility. That said, Bellinger is a gold glove caliber CF and the team plans on primarily playing him there, so Muncy will split time w David Freese as the annoying(but typical) Dodger platoon.

My son was at the Michael Johnson Performance agility camp in McKinney Texas today and Muncy was there working out. Muncy spent about 30 minutes on flipping balls to a SS covering 2nd base. To your point it seems he’s getting ready for that transition.

NO MACHADO EVER IN BLUE AGAIN!
There’s your easy answer.

Minor league depth. That is all.

Dodger fans, I’m interested in your proposals of a fair trade for Realmuto. Ruiz and Lux? Too little? Too much? W Smith, Lux and May? What gets a JT deal done?
kenleyfornia2
Too much. Realmuto is good but he’s not that good. All his value is in the postion he plays. If he were a 1B he would be an average hitter
KnicksFanCavsFan
He was the best catcher in baseball last year.
KnicksFanCavsFan
And it’s not “just a positron”. It’s likely the single most difficult positron to get all-star level talent.

Grabarkewitz is pretty spot on.
Marlins asking for Bellinger and prospects is hilarious.. Marlins will eventually come down to earth or keep a catcher that absolutely does not want to be on the team. Dodgers don’t want Realmuto long term, finish his 2 years, and let Ruiz take over. I have faith one way or another Dodgers will get a good catcher until Ruiz is ready.

The Dodgers are stashing pieces to fill in after their fire sale.

Verdugo, Smith (closer to the show), Gray and Alvarez. No way they deal Lux or May or Ruiz together in any deal. Maybe one, but not two or all three.
