Giants To Select Contracts Of Nick Vincent, Yangervis Solarte, Gerardo Parra

By Jeff Todd | March 23, 2019 at 12:29am CDT

The Giants have decided to carry a trio of veteran players who were in camp on minor-league deals, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic was among those to report on Twitter. Reliever Nick Vincent, infielder Yangervis Solarte, and outfielder Gerardo Parra are all headed onto the 40-man roster.

All three have had success at the MLB level, but were left to battle for jobs this spring. Vincent has thrown over three hundred frames of 3.17 ERA ball as a big-league reliever, with strong K/BB numbers throughout his career. As I examined upon his signing, Vincent is an interesting candidate to continue putting out solid numbers.

Solarte and Parra, each of whom is 31 years old, will take up important part-time positions in the lineup. At his best, Solarte provides infield versatility and an above-average bat. Consecutive down seasons have reduced his outlook, but he could still factor as a solid contributor. As for Parra, he just wrapped up a hefty three-year deal with the Rockies, over which he managed only a 81 OPS+ (.283/.320/.407). But he’s a well-regarded all-around player who posted a .270/.317/.541 slash in 41 plate appearances this spring.

Vincent is a nice addition and the other two provide affordable veteran depth albeit not overly productive depth.

Solarte is the man. Rooting him to get flipped to a contender.

Really hope he does not get traded mid season, would be incredibly difficult on his kids to either move all of a sudden or be without their father the rest of the year.

I think the Giants have done more than anyone this decade. 3 championships!!! Boston has 2. Golden State and the New England are the only ones similar.

If teams had the choice of having a great farm system or three World Series championships in a decade, they will all pick the three World Series.

    Sad state of the organization
When 3 castoffs make the team
While drafted and developed “talent” such as: Jones, Slater, Shaw, Beede, Black, etc.
Are only good enough to play at AAA.
Bet opposing pitchers will be trembling at the prospect of facing the Giants starting OF.

How does guys like vincent, with good stats, end up barely getting 1 year contracts or minors deals, but Brett cecil, gets 4 years 30 mil. Besides being left handed, hes garbage. Would have rather the cards gave vincent 30 mil 2 years ago

How’s the Giants pen shaping up?
Smith, Watson, Melancon, Moronta, Vincent, Dyson, Blach? Stratton? Who am I missing? Sounds like it could get crowded,

Rule 5 pick Bergen will probably make the cut, and Gott is also doing an excellent job in spring training. Blach was already optioned, and the only way I see the Giants not DFAing Stratton is if they admit defeat on Melancon, which is pretty unlikely.

Yeah mate well said, missed Bergen and Gott, I think they both make it too, who misses out? They won’t just release Melancon, if FZ can get creative to move him then I think that’ll be for the best.

That’s a pretty good bullpen if melancon can get his act together again

Melancon will start the season on the injury list. Buys the front office a few weeks to see how the pen settles out anyways.

Melancon is going on the IL.
He’s got a sore neck from constantly turning around to watch all the bullets launched off his pitches whizz by him all spring long. Hammys are in bad shape also from having to run around backing up 1B, 3B and Home..

Somebody call Bobby Evans and fire him again please. While I am grateful for the three championships, I don’t understand how they have been this atrocious at drafting and developing talent. Another year with a pathetic offense?

Better keep the fans distracted with “ bobble head nights”. Keep the cameras on the fans and bleachers. To me their players look old, slow and out of shape? Am I wrong? Example, Crawford looks checked out and weak. Especially after getting his contract. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Padres third string catcher is a former Giant, that should tell you …
