White Sox Place Ryan Burr On 10-Day IL

By Jeff Todd | May 28, 2019 at 12:59pm CDT

The White Sox announced today that reliever Ryan Burr has been placed on the 10-day injured list. He’s said to be dealing with a right elbow capsule strain.

In Burr’s place, fellow righty Jose Ruiz has been recalled. He already had a 40-man spot so no further roster moves are required.

Burr, who turns 25 today, had been off to a reasonably useful start to the year. While he has allowed ten earned runs in 19 2/3 innings, he’s sporting a solid 20:8 K/BB ratio. Burr’s 8.7% swinging-strike rate isn’t overly impressive, but he’s drawing grounders at a 47.4% clip and clocking in with a strong 95.7 mph average heater.

It isn’t clear at this point how severe the injury is or what kind of timetable might be anticipated. Burr’s IL placement is retroactive to May 25th. The White Sox pen hasn’t exactly been a stellar unit this year. Though it sits in the middle of the pack in terms of ERA, it’s a bottom-three outfit by measure of SIERA.

(Ryan) Burr joins his nemesis (Ian) Hamilton who is also injured. Hamilton is on the 7-day IL for the White Sox AAA affiliate in Charlotte. Since both are relievers and in the same organization there is little chance for a (pitcher’s) dual. lol

The two did perform a “re-enactment” of their namesake’s historic pistol duel earlier this season at the White Sox spring training complex in Glendale, AZ: nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/white-sox-reliever…

Hopefully someone can help me out and answer my question, why hasn’t Rodon been placed on the 60 day DL? Are they waiting for Jay to get done with a rehab start so they just keep a spot on the 40 for Jay?

Maybe it’s just me, but wouldn’t it make more sense to purchase the contract of Detweiler or Despagne and promote them and put an end to the Covey or Banuelos experiments?

If a 40-man roster spot is needed the White Sox will most certainly move Carlos Rodon to the 60-day IL at some point. The pitching prospect most White Sox fans yearn for to replace Rodon in the rotation this summer is Dylan Cease but the latter is already on the clubs 40-man roster.

If I were making decisions, the White Sox would use Rodon’s roster spot as soon as next week and sign free agent SP Dallas Keuchel when his QO compensation expires at the start of the Rule 4 Draft.on June 3rd.

The pitching is scary bad now with only Colome and Giolito looking like they are worthy of being in MLB……and the latter being a surprise turnaround with control.

It’s like Giolito stole Lopez’s mojo.

Giolito offered Jobu “cigar and rum”. Now other teams bats afraid of ball.

With Ben Zobrist going through his personal issues and possibly not returning to the Cubs this season perhaps your boy could steal some of his high contact/BA/OBP mojo and actually become the leadoff man that “Genius” Joe Maddon insists he is.
