White Sox Select Contract Of Evan Marshall

By Jeff Todd | May 1, 2019 at 11:18am CDT

The White Sox have selected the contract of right-hander Evan Marshall, per a club announcement. Reliever Thyago Vieira was optioned down to create roster space.

Marshall, 29, is still looking to recapture the success he had in his debut season of 2014. He has appeared in each of the ensuing four campaigns, but since that time has managed only a 7.89 ERA with 6.0 K/9 and 4.6 BB/9 in 43 1/3 frames.

There certainly is some promise in Marshall’s initial showing this year at Triple-A. He has yet to permit a run in ten frames while carrying a 13:1 K/BB ratio.

Shouldn’t there be an additional roster spot available for today’s doubleheader, at least for game 2? This would allow both teams to add a 26th man. With this latest transaction, the White Sox active roster still remains at 25.

Another reclamation project that will implode the moment he is brought into a game. DO THE FANS A FAVOR REINSDORF & SELL THE TEAM. You clearly will not spend money on legit free agents or on your minor league coaches / system. Better to have an owner that will try than your penny pintching @$$…

Ummm…guess you don’t remember the Sox actually had a higher yearly salary for Machado, which incentives that made it even higher! Also, they are not trying to win today, but next year and year after. They made some awesome trades, don’t need pricey free agents.

Just like a Sox fan, letting the facts get in the way of a good argument.

The Incentives offered were a joke. They could have signed him had they gone 10-325, or heck even 10/310. Reinsdorf is a joke and always has been. The reason the Sox won in 05 was because of Kenny getting the right players. Jerry is a catalyst to the Sox and Bulls and is loyal to extreme faults.

Not the spot, but it looks like Nick Senzel has gotten the call. CIN added him to the roster.

Bring Ozzie back. Players loved him plus he is the only manager that has won a World Series for the White Sox…

No thank you. Can we stop living in the past please. He has been out of the game for way too long. That 05 team could have won with a muppet managing. It was their year. Ozzie barely even had to manage in the playoffs or World Series. When your starters start and finish the game you just sit back and let the players play. I loved Ozzie as a player and to an extent as a manager, but he is not the answer even remotely.

Thyago Vieira was indeed the 26th man added to the roster for game 2 of the doubleheader. Thieira was optioned to Charlotte ahead of game 1 in order to make way for Evan Marshall who will remain in the bullpen for at least a while longer. The White Sox then had Vieira stick around until the nightcap, one in which he pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning. He wound up getting credit for the victory when the White Sox rallied for a walk-off win in their last AB on Yonder Alonso’s two-out bases loaded single. Marshall had also pitched tossed a perfect 1.1 innings during game 1 when he bailed out starter Carlos Rodon with the bases loaded.

Vieira will be back in AAA Charlotte on Thursday while Marshall remains in the White Sox pen after having not allowed a run all season at both AAA and at the MLB level.
