Urias isn’t up because he needs everyday AB’s and he simply isn’t going to get those in the Majors as long as they have Ian Kinsler on the team.

I agree, but isn’t it time to DFA Kinsler and give the kid a shot? With a WAR under 0, a replacement level player would be better. Urias could and likely will be well above replacement level the day he comes up.

Its clearly just the Padres being cheap and if they miss the playoffs, the fans should let ’em know whats up with ticket/jersey sales.

Its also not just about what he can do, but the additional protection he can provide in the lineup that will likely boost up other players numbers too. Machado & Co might see more pitches to hit with less Kinsler sized holes in the lineup.

They will at least try to trade him (likely eating a good portion of the money owed to him) before doing that.

truth be told, urias still wouldn’t likely get everyday ABs even without kinsler around.

dollar says preller/green still run with garcia vs RHP since GG has been at least replacement level serviceable in that role

They do and they need to be shown the door. You don’t call a young hitter up then give him sporadic AB’s. We saw it with Renfroe, Mejia, etc.

Posting this here, as maybe someone can enlighten me and I doubt Steve will have time to get to my question as he’s answered enough about Stroman for a Live Chat session.

But how and why are people thinking of Stroman as a #1? Ignoring career numbers that suggest otherwise, lets just look at the 2019 sample. 1.43 ERA in March/April and complete failure to get below a 4.04 ERA any month since. The WHIP has been as high as almost 1.700 and FIP xFIP believe he’s pretty much been the same guy that he always has been.

Having only watched him pitch very well against my Red Sox this year, I’m baffled as to how he does seem to do so well against this lineup, as well as why the heck anyone is pitching him as a #1 starter? He’s a #3 on a contender and a good one. Even on the Yankees, I’d rank him behind Tanaka and Severino (when he gets back) and they have pitching problems.

In addition, he only seems to go 4-6 innings with a few 7 inning outliers. There’s nothing about Marcus Stroman that resembles a 1. On his best day, he can fake a #2 for a few starts. But the return on Stroman should not include anything more then a few high-ceiling, high-risk, lower-end prospects with maybe some salary exchange in a major leaguer.

Its like the Jays somehow tricked us all…

start of the season: there are too many tanking teams so there will be few contenders
now: there are too many tanking teams so there are too many contenders

There’s a stark difference between a legitimate contender and teams being within sneezing distance of the second wild card spot

With so many teams tanking, the bar for “wild card contention” dropped precipitously, and just being in the hunt for that doesn’t make you a serious threat to win it all

The Giants have one of the worst records in the national league, but some people still classify them as ‘contenders’ because they’re sort of in the wild card hunt when there’s 3 months to go.

Basically the only thing that changed was how people want to interpret ‘contender’.

I know one person already gave a reason, but why are y’all even bothering to post in the comments section about a chat when the chat is still ongoing? Just submit questions in the chat!? Right? Then, if they don’t get answered I could see posting here. Don’t give up so early. I have had at least 5 questions answered in one single chat before. This will still be here when the chat is over. The chat won’t.

How come when you type the name of a banned commenter, you get a pending?

Because talking about them is just a good way to restart whatever nonsense got them banned in the first place, probably
