Mike Tauchman Out Six To Eight Weeks With Grade 2 Calf Strain

By Steve Adams | September 9, 2019 at 4:02pm CDT

The Yankees have lost outfielder Mike Tauchman for the remainder of the regular season and quite likely for the entirety of the postseason. The team announced to reporters that Tauchman has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 calf strain (Twitter link via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com).

Initial indications are that Tauchman will be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks. That spells big trouble for his hopes of being a part of the Yankees’ postseason roster. It’s theoretically possible that Tauchman could be ready if the club makes it into the World Series, but it seems likelier that he won’t suit up again this season.

If this is the last we’ve seen of Tauchman in 2019, his last impression was a good one. Tauchman was two-for-two before departing last night, bringing his season-long batting line to a hefty .277/.361/.504 slash with 13 home runs over 296 plate appearances. That’s stunning production from a player who was acquired late in Spring Training when he became a Rockies roster casualty.

It’s fair to ask whether Tauchman’s output is sustainable. We did just that in early August, and he responded by ripping off another strong month at the plate. While there’s still cause for some wariness, there’s also little doubt that Tauchman deserves to enter camp in 2020 with a presumption of an active roster spot. (It’s worth noting that he’ll be out of options.) Whether or not that’ll be with the Yanks remains to be seen; the Bronx Bombers could take any number of different directions in compiling their outfield unit over the offseason to come.

Wow. Sad to hear that. I hope he can recover and continue on with whomever he’s with in 2020. Next up, Clint Frazier. Your time to shine.

He’ll be back with the Yankees next year. I also expect Maybin to see more time than Frazier.

Maybin is dealing with a wrist issue. Stanton please get healthy.

          @PopeMarley

I would rather have Frazier in the field than Stanton. For now I insist that Stanton be the full-time DH and encased in bubble wrap when he’s not at the plate. Put some netting around him too so he doesn’t get hit by a foul ball when he’s not looking.

Hicks is likely done for the year. Maybin is reported to be dealing with a wrist issue. You seem to have forgotten EE in your scenarios.

When this happens, DJ has to play – 3rd.

The organization has lost faith in Red Thunder. Poor defense and an oversized ego are likely painting his ticket out of town.

That’s not all that ridiculous of a comment. Some players thrive in other organizations than others, and regress again once they leave. It’s entirely possible Tauchman would struggle outside the Yankees.

That weakens the Yanks defensively in the post season! That’s where the big loss is. And if Hicks doesn’t return Stanton will be depended on more defensively. Maybin hopefully is healthy enough. Left handed bat lost. Tough loss.

Granted, Gore has nowhere near the bat but is available to the organization as a late-inning defensive replacement.

This is the momment the Rockies need to take advantage of. Hire Dave Drombrowski ASAP. Continuing the litaney of failed seasons just is not smart. The Rockies can be winners but they need a winner to make it happen.

Could it be that joefriday14 is really Dave Dombrowski and hurriedly posted that message to whatever article he could before cleaning those last few items off of his drive and out of his desk at Red Sox HQ?

Hey pasha-only a desperate team will ignore the ruins that he left the Tigers in and how the Red Sox resembles the same things:

          -bloated contracts
          -old players breaking down
          -payroll out of control
          -farm system that is empty

Let’s not make believe that the cause of the farm system is that so many players graduated. None of the key young players were developed under DD.

Let’s just call him for what he is, Trader Dave. The bigger the trade the better.

He’s finished. Baseball has changed. The Res Sox will be paying for years with the ruins.

Joel Sherman is a shill for the Wilpon’s. He’s a low life writer that kisses up to bad owners and spreads information from private meetings with players.

He should be banned from baseball.

I was really hoping to see Mike in the postseason. What a shame.

Too bad they traded McBroom last week, but I hope Fraizer picks up the pace.

Otherwise, who is on the free agent market? Harrison? Drew Robinson? Tooci? Ugh.
