Phillies Release Bud Norris

By Jeff Todd | July 16, 2020 at 1:01pm CDT

The Phillies have released veteran righty Bud Norris, per a club announcement. He had been with the organization on a minor-league deal.

The team also has added southpaw Austin Davis and catcher Rafael Marchan to the 60-man player pool. Both had been sidelined for undisclosed reasons.

Norris, 35, sat out the 2019 season after failing to receive an offer to his liking. He was effective in 2018, so it stood to reason he had a realistic shot at earning a job with the Phils. Norris allowed four earned runs in the four Grapefruit League frames he threw this spring.

Marchan is a good add… As for Davis he’s a 27 year old minor league vet that will bring nothing to the Phillies… Why guys like this are taking up space on the 60-man roster when better arms in top pitching prospects (Medina & Miller) are not in camp is idiocy…

Austin Davis is not just some minors vet. he was with the team the past few years.

you miss the point. its not like the guy is some rando. he’s on the 40 man roster and has been.

The whole point of my comment was to point out that you missed the point and made a weak argument on-behalf of a AAAA player.

Skull’s quote: “…Davis he’s a 27 year old minor league vet that will bring nothing to the Phillies.”

It could not have been more accurate and yet you took exception. Nobody is talking about Davis being some rando except you.

How long until Chaim Bloom (Red Sox) gives Bud’s agent a call?

I was wondering the same thing. Can’t remember the last time the Sox were dumpster party diving like this. Just makes me respect Cashman even more as sometimes luck plays a part in winning the championship. To be so good for so long is mostly a salute to him and his staff. I’m curious though with the pandemic resulting in future financial decisions, the upcoming new CBA and the Yankees’ future obligations (committed and raises/new deals for current players, how he’s going to deal with in. Is a Bloom type future coming to the Yankees?

Did I hear someone mention a Yankees championship??? Do I need to remind everyone the last time was 2009 for that? I believe since 2004 the Red Sox have won 4 to the Yankees 1. Please someone correct me if I’m wrong!

No arguments from me Manfredsajoke. I’m as huge a Sox fan as there is but I like to be objective. Luck especially in 13 contributed big time and while I’ve argued the championships more than outweigh the 11 collapse and the last place finishes in 12, 14 and 15, it was done with different GMs when Cashman has built a continuous winner for so long. Of course he took over a great core of a team nut he deserves credit to have maintained a winning atmosphere for so long. Just trying to remain objective.

In terms of sports yes, but for everyday life not really. 2018 feels like yesterday.
