4:01pm: The team has selected the contract of righty Jeremy Beasley and activated him to fulfill the open active roster spot. Beasley, a former 30th-round pick, gets his first taste of the majors after pitching to a 4.49 ERA in 122 1/3 innings in the upper minors last year.
3:47pm: The Diamondbacks have placed lefty Madison Bumgarner on the injured list, GM Mike Hazen told reporters including Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic (via Twitter). He’s said to be dealing with a mid-back strain.
The hope at this point is that Bumgarner won’t be sidelined for an extended stretch. But even a few missed outings could put a rather significant dent in his overall contribution in a shortened 2020 season.
More broadly, it’d probably be good news if a fairly minor back issue helps explain Bumgarner’s early struggles. The 31-year-old’s past two starts have been duds; he has allowed an eye-popping six home runs while registering just four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

My fantasy teams wishes he was placed on the I.L. Saturday.
On second thought, my fantasy teams wishes he was placed on the I.L. in mid July.

If you had a do-over, what name would you realistically have taken instead of him? I had a stupid March draft, so by the time the restart came around, I realized I hated the pick and dropped him for Pearson even knowing he’d be “wasting” as spot for at least a week.
Halo11Fan
Pearson, great pick. I have him in a league.
I have a partner that’s a bit controlling. Really fun to play with, but I’m much more of an advisor than a partner. I would have never taken MadBum.
I did get Bundy with the last pick of the draft. We agreed on Paddack, Richards and Luzardo.
He got Morton, Glasnow, MadBum, Happ, Montgmery.
This weeks pickup I wanted Touki, but he wanted Anthony DeSclafani. Guess who we picked up. 🙂
Technically correct
At least DeSclafani has Pittsburgh next and has been pitching well so far. Touki does have a lot of potential, so I could see that being a tough call.
Halo11Fan
We didn’t activate DelScalfani. It’s a weekly league. The person who he would have gone in for was Jordan Montgomery and he loves Montgomery, so that was not going to happen.
I look for pitchers who when they put the ball in the strikezone, the batter swings and misses more often than other pitchers and Swinging Strike Rate. Then I dig. Touki dropped his slider. Bundy greatly reduced the rate of his four seem fast ball. For example.
Oh, I also picked Ohtani. But I felt if something happened to him as a pitcher, we could use him as a hitter. I’m very happy to have him as a hitter. It ended up being a bargain.

Did you pick up Teheran?

To be honest MadBum hasn’t been the same pitcher since his dirt bike accident in early 2017. He’s gotten lit up so far this year like nobody’s business, so whatever is wrong, a trip to the IL is necessary.

Chase Field is a terrible home ballpark for him. His home/road splits from 2019 suggested as much heading into the off-season. Good at home (2.93 ERA) but bad elsewhere (5.29). I was upset when it was rumored the Dodgers might be interested in him.
Halo11Fan
A lot of Angel Fans wanted him as well. I have no idea what Wheeler is doing this year, but that’s the guy I wanted. But there was no way he was going to sign for an LA Team, which is why the Angels got Rendon.
A lot of Angels fans also wanted Ryu and Kluber.
I would have liked Ryu, but not at that price.
Orel Saxhiser
As a Dodger fan, I was okay with letting Ryu walk. He might have a couple of good years with Toronto, but they probably won’t be contending until after then. Tough call, but I get why they signed him. With starting pitchers, developing your own is better than overspending for free agents. That’s why the Dodgers and Padres have bright futures. All those cost-efficient young arms make it feasible to spend money on other needs. The Angels badly need two pitchers to emerge as top-of-the-rotation arms. Maybe Heaney and especially Canning become those guys. Bundy looking good so far. Add a stud to that mix and maybe they have something. Granted, studs are difficult to come by.

His b-ref page has his rodeo dates/winnings toward the bottom
mlb1225
That’s awesome. It also says his alterego is Mason Saunders at the top. It’s like how Paul Oneil has Kick: Left on his BBREF profile.
okinnitram
Is Mason Saunders on the IL also?
MikeyHammer
Rodeo stars don’t go on the IL. They bench press bulls until the weakness leaves their bodies.
jjd002
Figured it would be his neck after that last outing.
nentwigs
Source of the injury, according to undisclosed sources, are Bumgarner’s rapid bodily spins as batted balls whistle by, around, and over him.
Orel Saxhiser
They should make him retrieve all those balls.

Where’s “BumgarnerequalsNLCS”? Hiding somewhere in a basement looking for a new user name after this one and the next idiotic one saying “Acunaisstilloverrated”. Try a new user name, it isn’t working for you. Lucky the Braves avoided Bumgarner.
SportsFan0000
Terrible signing by the DBs that they wish they had a do over on so they could pass. Madbum, like so many others, is being paid on past performance. There is a lot of mileage on that arm. Would not surprise me if he needed surgery.
