Astros Announce ALDS Roster

By Anthony Franco | October 5, 2020 at 12:31pm CDT

The Astros announced their 28-man roster for this week’s American League Division Series against the Athletics. Here’s the full roundup:

Right-Handed Pitchers

  • Luis García
  • Zack Greinke
  • Josh James
  • Cristian Javier
  • Lance McCullers, Jr. (Game 1 starter)
  • Enoli Paredes
  • Ryan Pressly
  • Andre Scrubb
  • Cy Sneed
  • José Urquidy

Left-Handed Pitchers

  • Brooks Raley
  • Blake Taylor
  • Framber Valdez (Game 2 starter)

Catchers

  • Dustin Garneau
  • Martin Maldonado
  • Garrett Stubbs

Infielders

  • José Altuve
  • Alex Bregman
  • Carlos Correa
  • Aledmys Díaz
  • Yuli Gurriel
  • Abraham Toro

Outfielders

  • Michael Brantley
  • Chas McCormick
  • Josh Reddick
  • George Springer
  • Myles Straw
  • Kyle Tucker

There’s only one change from the team’s Wild Card Series roster that swept the Twins in the first round. García is on, adding a remarkable sixth rookie to the pitching staff. Infielder Jack Mayfield was left off in his place. After starting Game 1 of the Wild Card series, Greinke’s role remains up in the air after it was announced that McCullers and Valdez would be getting the ball for the first two games of the DS.

McCormick was only selected to the Houston roster before the Twins’ series, but he didn’t see any action. Accordingly, he’ll be making his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game against Oakland.

If the Astros somehow win the WS this year, can we consider this a dynasty? I know they cheated in 17′, and they might’ve done something in 19′, but they have still built a really strong squad nonetheless.

By acknowledging that they cheated or may have cheated in 2 years, how can you reasonably call them a dynasty not knowing how they’d perform without those aides? That’s like saying 2020 has been a pretty good year — ya know — minus the virus and all.

I am also acknowledging the hit they took to pitching this season with which Valdez, Javier, and Urquidy have really stepped up, that’s just good depth.

Another layer to this is, what do we say if Springer, Correa, Bregman, etc. all go to different teams and play at an A+ caliber level? Do we say that they had a super team with all of those guys on it?

Not to mention the great job that Luhnow did to put them in the position they’re in now. The Verlander trade, the pitching magic with Strom, Charlie Morton, the Bregman extension, the Osuna trade, the list goes on.

They are a sketchy team, but it is ludicrous to say that they aren’t good.

is it really all that different from what the Patriots did? several tainted championships and they’re still called a dynasty.

People hate the Patriots, people hate the Astros, people hate winners.

I think Greinke for game 3 is a possibility.

Urquidy’s a much better option for game 3, he’s been awesome lately.

You must watch a lot of hoi polloi sitcoms on CBS, easily amused.

These guys have no creativity. They should have had the Dr prescribe then all hearing aids. Then they could connect to each one with Bluetooth and just tell them what is coming. Acting like cavemen instead of people in this exploding era of technology. You can call them a dynasty all you want to me they are just cheaters.
