Phillies Add 6 Players To 40-Man Roster

By Connor Byrne | November 20, 2020 at 6:22pm CDT

The Phillies have added three left-handers – Kyle Dohy, Bailey Falter and Damon Jones – as well as infielder Nick Maton, righty Francisco Morales and outfielder Simon Muzziotti to their 40-man roster, the team announced. They now have 37 players on their roster.

Going by MLB.com’s rankings, the most promising player in this group is Morales, whom it places fourth overall in the Phillies’ farm system. The hard-throwing 21-year-old has a chance to morph into a workhorse at the major league level, per MLB.com. So far, Morales has topped out at Single-A ball, where he recorded a 3.82 ERA/3.51 FIP and 12.01 K/9 against 4.28 BB/9 in 96 2/3 innings in 2019.

Muzziotti (No. 11), Maton (13), Jones (15) and Dohy (27) are also among the Phillies’ top 30 prospects. All of those players are homegrown products.

Morales excites me for the future. His stuff is nasty and I heard his change up(which was a work in progress) has started to show well in workouts.

i hope they dont move him to RP too quickly. i want to see if he can stick in the rotation because that would be a huge plus.

Excites you? 4 1/2 walks per nine? Almost a 4.00 era? Another “thrower” with “stuff”. A dime a dozen. We need players that can truly pitch.

I’ve liked him since he was drafted. Going to be a JA Happ like sneaky good LHP through the system

How bad of a team are you when you can’t even fill it a40 man roster? Adding six “bums” to bring you to 37. What a dumpster fire.

Look at that roster! It’s horrible. Tell me who on that roster will play at an all star level outside besides Harper and Nola?? Nobody! Bums!

Not filling the roster to 40 is deliberate.. They need space for possible Rule 5 or free agent signings. You should know that.

I wonder why the Phils are moving Falter so slowly? He’s been effective at every level and left handed with good k/bb splits.

Morales is going to be a stud. Just plain filthy across the board. One of my favorite prospects in all of baseball.

I haven’t seen him pitch yet, but am excited to see him progress. Of course my #1 plan of action would be to acquire Lindor, if I get my way, he may have to be a part of that deal.Lol

Anybody that sinks at this guy would actually run the Phillies in win a championship would have to be nuts he couldn’t do it with the Cubs he couldn’t do it with the Phils. The only reason why he gets his job is because his dad and I believe he’s in a Baseball Hall of Fame. It would be a terrible choice. Theo from the Cubs just resigned you’re going to have them you always stays 9 years so you should wouldn’t what title by nine years and the two places he stayed 9 years he went to World Series Boston and Chicago Cubs.

It’s looking like Cigar Guy is through spending “stupid money”, so don’t expect any big time FAs heading to Philly. Same is true for acquiring a player like Lindor. They just ain’t gonna go that route.

But you can find a hidden gem in the Rule 5 draft if the right guy is doing the choosing. Odubel (At least for a few seasons.) was a nice pick. So was Dave Hollins way back when. Maybe we’ll get lucky again. To wit, Phils took Shane Victorino in the Rule 5 and then offered him back to the Dodgers. LA said no thanks so the Phils kept him. Turned out pretty good.

I’m curious to see if Obdubel comes back. It was nice to see an organization show some integrity for a change, and not using him, despite really needing some CF depth. Meanwhile Familia never lost his job in NY.
