The latest minor transactions from around the sport:
- The Orioles signed right-hander Conner Greene to a minor-league contract earlier this week, per MLB.com’s transactions page (and confirmed by Greene on Twitter). A 2013 draftee out of a California high school by the Blue Jays, Greene became a prospect of some note after his velocity spiked early in his pro career. He was traded to the Cardinals after the 2017 season and has spent the past two years in the Royals’ system. The 25-year-old struggled badly in the high minors in recent years but was still throwing in the mid-to-high 90’s in 2019, as FanGraphs’ Eric Longenhagen noted in April. Greene has extensive starting experience in the minors and could be an option for either the rotation or bullpen mix if he shows well in spring training.

This would be an interesting signing IF we had a reputation for developing players. Sadly it’s been quite the opposite.

I’m not sure how much you’ve been paying attention but the Orioles are doing some very solid work developing players. Their farm system is also top 10. More to come.

They gotta get those guys to have success at the ML level and that hasn’t really happened for them in years past
RedFraggle
Mountcastle, Kremer, and Akin all looked awful so far right?

There was a time when some of us Blue Jays fans had fairly high hopes for Greene. I thought maybe he could be a middle of the rotation starter or maybe a closer if starting didn’t work out. His command held him back, and although he threw hard, he never could turn that into strikeouts. He still young, though. Good luck to him.

Connor Greene went from being a hyped “can’t miss” Blue Jays prospect to being a guy who signs minor league deals with the O’s and ends up in MLBTR’s “minor MLB signings” page. How the mighty have fallen. Feel old yet?

I feel bad for Orioles fans, each offseason they don’t even try. Why not move the team to Vegas?
dimitriinla
Because they are a historic franchise. It would be like moving the Raiders to Las Vegas – yuck.
Christopher_Oriole
Being that I’m an orioles fan in Vegas, I’d love it and hate it at the same time.
A location change wouldn’t change who’s actually running the franchise.

Someone doesn’t pay attention to current events.

O’s have a tough row to hoe in the AL East. Even if their highly touted farm system produces an AL East champion one day, O’s won’t have the cheese to keep all the players.. But first, they gotta get to that level, and that, at least for the moment, looks to be at best a few years away. Still, next to Pittsburgh, the best stadium for watching a game. Too bad the O’s fans don’t turn out in bigger numbers.
RedFraggle
1. It’s better than Pittsburgh.
2. There’s a reason the team is still trading away players for minor leaguers. The plan is to have a pipeline to the MLB.

While Camden Yards is a beautiful ballpark, PNC ballpark is consistently voted as the best ballpark in all of MLB. Much like Baltimore, it’s such a shame that fans don’t fill the stadium as they should.

This is not really that bad of a signing. If he can go to the minor leagues and work on his stuff than I feel he could be a great option for the Orioles. His velocity is there and that is someone the Orioles need. He would help that rotation in the future. The Orioles need the starting pitching help. Especially if they trade Alex Cobb this offseason.

On the bright side, he does have a .400 batting average
