Royals To Re-Sign Jeison Guzman

By Jeff Todd | December 16, 2020 at 8:53pm CDT

The Royals have agreed to terms on a minor-league deal with infielder Jeison Guzman, per MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez (Twitter link). He had recently been non-tendered but will re-join the Kansas City organization.

Guzman only recently reached his 22nd birthday and hasn’t yet appeared above the Class A level. He was originally added to the 40-man roster in advance of the 2019 Rule 5 draft.

While the switch-hitting middle-infielder hasn’t yet conquered low-minors pitching, he’s considered a slick fielder and did get a chance to develop at the Royals’ alternate training site during the 2020 campaign. Despite a brief call-up to the active roster in August, he did not see any big-league action.

Guzman joins several other players in returning to the Royals after being dropped from the big league roster.

Call it professional insight. Everything positive they do in media is to mask the rules they break on a daily basis.

Professional insight…. I call BS. The fact you have no info other then what YOU think on the allegations show you are truly blowing smoke out your ***. Show facts to back up your statements. That is professional insight.

I have been a Royals fan for a very long time(had season tickets from 1990-2000). The Royals are known for keeping their home grown talent around(that can be taken bad or good to some). The owner is rather cheap but has shown to open the pocket book to win.

As for Guzman, depth for the middle infield. I think he will spend a good amount of time in AAA.

@Pablo I’ve never heard anything like that.

This is a low risk move. Great if it pans out,no big loss if it doesn’t.

Can confirm this claim is 100% false. Royals organization, as far as the people are concerned, is among the best not just in baseball but all major sports.

What a load of horse manure. The more likely scenario would be one of “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” which has absolutely not been the case with the Kansas City organization ever.

Hmmmm… never heard of him. Does he have some good WAR or UZR or some other sabermetrics? I don’t care about any stats from the olden days, just algorithm ones.

Good kid signed out of the DR young. Late bloomer in the box but plays standout defense.

Anything that comes out of the press in a positive light for the Royals just reverse it and you will get the truth.

No proof of what you are saying, whereas there are plenty of examples of the Royals running a class organization since Moore got there. One recent example: KC kept and paid all their minor leaguers and staffers during the pandemic.

Again. Take that positive news and flip it. You notice how many they released once season was over???

Well, it is better that they got paid during the season rather than not getting paid, like so many minor league players that went without pay this year. Since they’re getting released right now, they will have an opportunity to play in a full minor league season next year, so as long as they get signed by a team they will get paid.

You seriously need to stop trolling.

I don’t disagree entirely with your premise (re: royals PR spin), but teams at some point have to get under the planned 180-player limit.

I’ll repeat myself because it’s that untrue: can confirm this claim is 100% false. It’s a business like every sports franchise, but is the most like a family you’ll find. Their treatment of others is second to none.
