Astros Place Michael Brantley On 10-Day IL

By Connor Byrne | May 28, 2021 at 6:09pm CDT

The Astros have placed outfielder Michael Brantley on the 10-day injured list with right hamstring tightness and recalled infielder Robel Garcia, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com tweets.

Houston will temporarily lose one of its best hitters in Brantley, who’s in his third year with the team. Brantley was a free agent in the offseason, but the Astros brought him back on a two-year, $32MM contract after he posted outstanding production in his first two seasons with the team. This season has been more of the same for Brantley, who has batted .305/.346/.455 (128 wRC+) with three home runs in 179 plate appearances.

Brantley – a former Indian who has dealt with various injuries throughout his career – has already missed eight of Houston’s 49 games this year, and he’ll add to that total now that he’s on the IL. The 34-year-old has spent the vast majority of his season in left field, though he hasn’t started there since May 22, and he hasn’t been in the Astros’ lineup since the 23rd. When Brantley hasn’t been available to man left, the Astros have used Aledmys Diaz and Chas McCormick.

I like that All-IL team. With his average of under 100 games played per season he’s definitely on that team. Byron Buxton is and will always be the man on that team though.

        Stanton is the team’s DH.

        Starting rotation:

        Syndergaard
        Soroka
        Clevinger
        Paxton
        Team captain: Strasburg

Wow… Mr. Moneyball’s daughter was killed in a car accident! Just read it on the NY Post website.

I know it’s not team related, but you would think if this site wants to go by only sabermetrics and algorithms that it would at least mention this and offer their condolences, thoughts and prayers.

    RIP to the young lady.

Sucks for the family, but Michael Lewis didn’t even play baseball. It is pretty far removed from the point of MLBTR to have an article about the death of a the daughter of an author who once wrote a book about baseball.

But if taking a shot at the website you spend a lot of time on just to score some sort of virtue points is your way of grieving, then by all means continue.

Thank you Brother Steve. It’s good to know somebody else was impacted as deeply as I.

What, did you get muted too much so you had to make another account?

Also rough that Brantley is out, Houston was doing well early on. Looked better than the A’s in my opinion in the west

So… this story is about an injury that occurred to a MLB player. Why is anyone talking about someone that died. Maybe I missed a joke, but judging by the comments alone. Not sure how those kinda comments relate to this content.
