“This chat is already pushing a record length, so it’s time to shut things down.”

Does that mean we’re locked out?

Phillies have the MVP, runnerup for CY Young, best catcher in baseball (arguably), and like a 0.06% chance of making it to the WS let alone winning.

And an ownership group ready to spend stupid money, but not LAD stupid money and actually win a WS. And that franchise has prospects coming out the wazoo and we have squadoosh.

Only 71 days until spring training.

Similar to the “location, location, location” mantra from land ownership…. to make sure a team is always in a position for success…”depth, depth, and depth.”
We can’t blame it all on Klentak; from what we’ve heard about Middleton, he may one of those owners who gets in their own way (Moreno, Nutting, Sterling, etc).

They developed a decent group of prospects in their mini-rebuild and went all-in too early.

To borrow a hold em’ analogy: when you’re desperate to turn things around, sometimes one gets too aggressive with pocket Js or Qs and pushes too early before they hit their set or full boat.

Yeah but one of, if not the worst bullpen in all of mlb. Hard to overcome that deficiency with a good hitter and a good starter.

They have a few decent pieces in the bullpen who would likely be more effective if not used so heavily (Neris, Bradley). We’ve seen it with better teams in the past; a few key bullpen arms get overused for a lowered efficacy.

But the Phillies could use much better positional and SP depth, which is greatly hindered by poor draft results.

Spending isn’t what won the Phillies a championship in 2008.

      Ryan Howard
      Chase Utley
      Jimmy Rollins
      Carlos Ruiz
      Pat Burrell
      Cole Hamels
      Brett Myers
      Ryan Madson
      Kyle Kendrick

All homegrown players. Ruben Amaro Jr. was able to add several low key pieces to complement the core (Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Pedro Feliz, So Tagucchi, Geoff Jenkins) and added guys like Jamie Moyer and Joe Blanton. No spending stupid money just good roster construction

Ruben Amaro didn’t do that. He joined the team afterwards. Pat Gillick was 2008 and did all those moves you described.

Ok. Still the point is the Phillies built a winner, they didn’t buy one. Anyone expecting them to just throw money around and win championships is stuck in late 90’s early 00’s Yankees

@Rsox Yes agree with your main point. But I mean they had a young core of Rollins, Howard, Utley and Hamels. That’s pretty uncommon. You can rebuild for 50 years and not get that lucky. But I do agree, ideally you’d like to win with homegrown talent, and the Phillies recent failures are due to lack of said talent. But people act like they’re trading away the farm to win now. That’s really not true. The farm stinks.

@VonPurpleHayes. True and unfortunately with DD at the helm the farm will get worse.

Hoskins and Bohm were bat-first no-glove prospects. I don’t know if Kingery caved under the pressure of signing a fairly big contract having never played a game at the MLB level but he’s been a bust. Alfaro didn’t work out and is now with his 4th organization. The only decent starting pitching prospect they had they parlayed into a Catcher. Its definitely been rough. However, for the fans clamoring to throw money at it and make it better that seldomly works in todays game.

They’ve drafted terribly so, there’s no fixing this without buying talent.

I still don’t understand where to access these “private” chats with Tim (I’m a fairly new subscriber).

Another commenter claimed they are emailed out, but I haven’t received any emails.. :/

The chats that are emailed to user are for paying subscribers. Subscribing for a year at a time is about $29.99….which is about $2.67/month.

Royals would be dumb to trade MJ Melendez. That being said, I expect him to be traded
