Justin Bour Signs With Mexico City Red Devils

By Tim Dierkes | January 4, 2022 at 7:58am CDT

First baseman Justin Bour has signed with the Red Devils of Mexico City (Diablos Rojos del México) for the 2022 season, announced the team on December 30th.  After playing in the Majors from 2014-19 with the Marlins, Phillies, and Angels, Bour spent 2020 with the Hanshin Tigers.  He signed a minor league deal in March 2021 to return stateside with the Giants, but he moved to KBO’s LG Twins after 33 Triple-A games.

The 18-team Mexican League was founded in 1925 and became part of Minor League Baseball thirty years later, and was eventually considered a Triple-A league.  The Mexican League’s longtime connection ended in 2021 when MLB re-organized the minors.  Bour joins several players with MLB experience on the Diablos Rojos’ roster, including Arquimedes Caminero, Jumbo Diaz, Roberto Osuna, JC Ramirez, Yangervis Solarte, and Jorge Cantu.  Diablos manager Jorge del Valle noted that Bour brings similar power to that of Jon Singleton, who recently signed a minor league deal with the Brewers.

Bour, 33, was drafted by the Cubs in the 25th round out of George Mason University back in 2009.  He remains the most successful Major Leaguer from that Virginia college.  Bour joined the Marlins in the 2013 Rule 5 draft.  He became the Marlins’ primary first baseman from 2015-18, finishing fifth in the NL Rookie of the Year voting with a 23-homer debut in ’15.  Bour popped 83 home runs for the Marlins in that span and ranks 12th in franchise history.  A left-handed hitter, Bour generally needed to be platooned against southpaws but still owns a 123 wRC+ against righties in his 559-game MLB career.

Shocked he is going to Mexico City. This is usually the type of guy David Stearns will sign. In hopes of buying cheap and getting a career year out of. Typical DH type that can’t field but used to be able to be decent bat.

The Mexico City Red Devils have more MLB experience on their roster than the Pittsburgh pirates. Honestly it’s not even close.

Reynolds, Tsutsugo and Hayes! And not much more. The only things that can stop Pirates from losing 90 in 2022 are COVID and the lockout. Feel bad for great Pittsburgh fans, Stargell-era, “we are family.”

Bout was good with fish though.

Reynolds and Hayes, YES; Tsutsugo, limited sample size. ’24 could be the season all of Cheringtons gems, come together, and make a run.

Then again it could be ‘25 or 26’,or maybe never. The original due date for progress after the awful second half of 2019 was late in 22.
They need to show improvement this year to at least 70 wins as these Pirate jokes are replacing the Tigers,Royals,Marlins, and Orioles by the fungis of this site.

The Pirates could easily avoid 90 L’s. It’s not just those three. Roansy Contreras, Oneil Cruz, Miguel Yajure, Travis Swaggerty, Diego Castillo, about a dozen others will help them avoid 90.

Contreras & Yajure have always been at least mildly interesting. At times, both have been even more than that. Roansy in particular. Though Yajure was more of a late bloomer.

The Yanks were still treating them as starters. Keith Law would just play the odds & “predict” they will be relievers. Ya know?
But. Anyway. Are the Pirates still developing them as starting pitchers?

Yes Ducky. They are both highly regarded.I think that Yajure started a game or two last year for the Pirates, but both I think had some arm troubles but still made progress during the year. They are set to go this year, and will certainly be penciled in at some point to start for the Pirates. This is only if both sets of knuckleheads “at the table” figure out that baseball is at least important to the fans.
          Happy New Year to you.

Cantu still playing huh? I remember in about 2015 my friend was tweeting with him and he said he was tryin to make a comeback. I figured he would be very old but he’s 39 now.

Osuna is playing with them I see. What’s his story? Is he still suspended at all or are teams just avoiding him?

I hope Bour finds a teammate to feed him donuts during BP.

Osuna had his elbow blow out in 2020. Houston wanted him to get TJS. He refused and was released at end of the season. Probably not able to perform at a high level. Already made a lot of money in the states too. Wife beater too.

Instead of getting a loan, I got my already programmed blank ATM card to withdraw a maximum of $5,000 daily for 1 years.
I am so happy about this because i got mine last week and I have used it to get $50,000.
Mrs Raina is giving out the card just to help the poor and needy though it is illegal but
it is something nice and she is not like other people pretending to have the blank ATM cards.
And no one gets caught when using the card. get yours from her i fully recommend her.
