A’s To Place Stephen Piscotty On 10-Day Injured List

By Mark Polishuk | May 7, 2022 at 5:01pm CDT

The Athletics will be placing outfielder Stephen Piscotty on the 10-day injured list due to a Grade 1 calf strain, manager Mark Kotsay told reporters (including MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos).  Piscotty suffered the injury while running the bases in Friday’s game, and had to be removed in the second inning.

Due to an earlier stint on the COVID-19 list, Piscotty has played in only 14 games this season, hitting .225/.340/.325 over his 47 plate appearances.  With a 105 wRC+/106 OPS+, Piscotty is one of the few batters with above-average offensive production for the struggling A’s, though the outfielder hasn’t produced much at the plate over the previous three seasons.  Injuries have hampered Piscotty in that time and he’ll now make another trip to the IL, though if there is any silver lining, a Grade 1 is the least-serious type of calf strain.

The A’s will have a ready-made replacement for Piscotty in the outfield, as Ramon Laureano is eligible to be reinstated to the active roster tomorrow.  Laureano was issued an 80-game PED suspension last August, so he missed the remainder of the 2021 season and the first 27 games of this season.  It isn’t quite a sure thing that Laureano is activated, however, as he has only a .462 OPS over 44 PA since beginning a Triple-A rehab assignment two weeks ago — Oakland might opt to give Laureano a bit more of a tune-up period in the minors before bringing him back to Major League action.

Duvall will be a great rebuilding piece for the A’s.

Because apparently, he is a good hitter

A’s don’t want to pay a player anything but minimum wage so Duvall is out of their price range.

The A’s if it’s not apparent are trying to build a team for their first year in Las Vegas. The goal is to tank for a few years get early draft picks, trade all their good players for young guys (done) with a 3-4 year target of being good, but again it’s for Las Vegas

Inside rumor Vegas is not going to be their city. 2 other cities are about to put in a bid for the A’s. Whoever give Fisher the most gets the A’s. Vegas blew too much on raiders.

I’m pretty sure we’re in a “Major League” situation with ownership tanking for the personal perks from moving/eventual team sale, so not really for Vegas so much as executive leadership.

Not many holes to fill in Lad (nor room) but a Piscotty for Price expiring’s swap makes a lotta sense w Oak getting a low level prospect

Too much talent (wasted) to roster Price in that pen Imo

I have a funny feeling that if this trade were to occur, Piscotty would show up in LA and hit like crazy for the rest of the season. The Dodgers just have that effect on players.

Piscotty is a decent hitter and his stats are currently hobbled by large amounts of foul ground and little to no protection in the order (if you pitch around him you’ll probably get a guy hitting below 200). Pro-rated version of 7 mill probably isn’t a bad bet for a mid season trade to a team trying to make the playoffs.

Price makes $32 million this year on a back loaded contract and Piscotty gets 7.25 million. So that will never happen unless A’s got $30 million. A’s will not take on any extra payroll. So that will never happen.

Price is getting paid 16 by Boston so his tab is only 16 –
By midseason your talking less than 4 mill difference to buy some prospects. This is exactly what Oak should be doing today
