Cubs Place Frank Schwindel On 10-Day Injured List, Recall Alfonso Rivas

By TC Zencka | June 18, 2022 at 10:31am CDT

The Cubs have placed first baseman Frank Schwindel on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain, per MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian (via Twitter). Alfonso Rivas has been recalled from Triple-A to claim the open roster spot.

Schwindel was a surprise performer for the Cubs last year, but Frank the Tank hasn’t had the type of follow-up season that he hoped. Over 245 plate appearances, Schwindel has slashed .237/.282/.386 with eight long balls. He’s been better of late, however, with a .278/.328/.407 line in June.

Rivas jumps right into the starting lineup today, batting eighth and playing first base. The 25-year-old has been up and down with the big league club all season, slashing .194/.296/.301 across 108 plate appearances. He’s crushed in Triple-A, though he’s stepped to the plate a mere 27 times.

Train.Wreck. What this FO did to the Cubs…back to being a laughing stock, after a few years of excellence. How do these guys have a job???

Rizzo would have looked good at 1B!

Maybe don’t dump Schwarber after one bad season? Maybe re-sign at least one of your big guns? If you do trade, get more than peanuts in return? Laughable and embarrassing.

They did not get peanuts in return for Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez.

I agree they should of signed Schwarber but there’s no way to know if he would have rebounded with the Cubs like he did with the Nets. Change of coaching staff can unlock some performance.

Put down the Redwine and do a bit of reading before spouting. They got a solid return for the big 3 from last season. 3 or 4 of those kids are already top 10-20 prospects in their system.

Didn’t Ricketts mandate a budget cut after the 2020 season? He said something about not being able to afford to pay players. Seems like a big reason why Theo walked.

They obviously took the best return they could get for Bryant and Rizzo. Nobody was going to overpay for a declining bat with little defensive skill and an aging first baseman who was making less and less contact each season, but deciding to tear it down was the weird decision, in my opinion. I think it likely goes back to the payroll decrease. I’d say this falls on ownership.

Cant fault Ricketts here. He endured biblical losses. Biblical! Tower of babel like. Meanwhile, em, isn’t that the Tower of Babel being erected at Clark and Addison? In case one was dying to overpay to stay at a crappy hotel with horrible noise pollution surrounded by Trixie bars with overpriced drinks. Hope the Metro, one of the last great indie rock clubs in the city- and one of the top in the nation, doesn’t get pushed out by Pottersville/Biff Tannenworld

Ricketts was underfinanced to operate the Cubs and Wrigley from Day One.

Rondon astutely notes that management accommplished their mission by converting their core into 3-4 guys who are now top 20 prospects in their system. Which means if they progress, and don’t relapse or get hurt they could become the next Augie Ojeda, Nick Madrigal, Ryan Theriot, and Doug Dascenzo? Promising. Don’t fret now boys, future = bright.

Oh no there goes the playoffs(sarcasm)
Things fell apart when ownership became more interested in buying up all the neighborhood instead of spending to bring in new blood.
Cubs ownership crying poor is laughable

But but but…its not all bad. You can overpay to stay at the crappy hotel which isn’t close to the great Chicago restaurants or classic bars, but is across the street from …Ricketsville.
Who cares if the baseball team is relevant or interesting. He’s built greater Schaumburg, an architectural delight. A much needed improvement since it’s not like Chicago was known for its architecture anyways.

Dont give up on us baby, as Starsky used to say. Just a minor blip. Cubs are going to be loaded. Outbid for top of the market free agent signing Marcus Stromam, future 3000 hit and 5 tool guy Nick the Stick Madrigal, Seiya is already a star + all those young kids they picked up in trades for Darvish, Baez, Bryant and the other guy. Cornerstones in Schwindel and Wisdom. Wisdom indeed! Let’s go Cubbies! Woo!

30, schmirty. Age is just a number. 30 is the new 22. All star production at a fraction of the price. Plus you can crank out new merch, since most of the Iowa tourists and 14 yr Olds at Wrigley seem a bit lost with their sea of Bryzzo-Baez-Arietta shirseys.

The dude tossed one up there 35mph. I watched that game in it’s entirety. I’ll take my time investment as permission enough to have a laugh or two. He was even laughing on the mound. It’s the 2022 Cubs, the jokes write themselves. Yeah…had no idea Frank The Tank was a 1B too.
