Mets Place Tommy Hunter On 15-Day Injured List

By TC Zencka | August 6, 2022 at 9:53am CDT

The Mets have placed right-hander Tommy Hunter on the 15-day injured list with lower back tightness, per Tim Healey of Newsday Sports (via Twitter). In his place, David Peterson has been added to the active roster. Peterson will start the first game of today’s doubleheader, while reliever Yoan Lopez was added to serve as the 27th man for today’s twin bill.

The veteran Hunter has appeared in the bigs in every season since making his debut with the Rangers in the 2008 season. Hunter, now 36, has gone on to suit up for the Orioles, Cubs, Guardians, Rays, Phillies, and Mets. He made four appearances last year for New York, all scoreless. This year, he has made 11 appearances with a 2.51 ERA/4.02 FIP across 14 1/3 innings of work.

With the Mets rotation now intact, it’s likely this is a spot start for Peterson, though that could certainly change. The towering southpaw has been a solid rotation option for manager Buck Showalter this season, making 13 starts and another four appearances out of the bullpen. In total, Peterson has a 3.54 ERA/4.04 FIP across 73 2/3 innings with a strong 27.5 percent strikeout rate, 11.2 percent walk rate, and career-best 53.2 percent groundball percentage.

Lopez’s previous time in the Majors with the Mets was marked by a suspension he picked up for throwing for his perceived targeting of Kyle Schwarber on May 1st. He made just seven appearances with the team, giving up four earned runs across 10 2/3 innings on 10 hits and five walks while striking out 10 batters.

If the call against Harris still does not prove the umps always help the Mets on close class, I don’t know what else to tell you.

You clearly haven’t noticed how almost every call that goes to replay (and has to go 50-50 chance) goes the Mets way.

To be clear, I’m not talking about balls and strikes. I’m referring to plays that go to replay.

Only game so happen to be watching…. You mean like acuna being out trying to go 2nd to 3rd but replay still letting him be safe? Yea you just sound like a salty Braves fan. Let the Orioles win and see if you hear any complaining. Braves get lucky last yr and now they are the best thing since sliced bread?? Lol, news flash, they are back to being the irrelevant braves.

So even when the Mets win you’re gonna rationalize as to why it doesn’t count? C’mon. And, again I’ll point out, the ghost runner rule applies to everyone so it’s impossible to logically conclude that it gives the Mets an unfair advantage.

Who said it doesn’t count. It just fits my narrative that they been lucky all season, including going 9-1 in extras. That is not a skill. That is all luck.

They are even getting some Braves luck from last year with their midseason trades suddenly producing.

They’re 9-1 in extras because they hit well with runners in scoring position, and are not s huge swing and miss team like the Braves or Phillies. They did catch a break playing all their Phillies games early, but keep in mind the Braves didn’t have to face Harper so luck went their way too. The Mets are just very good. Good teams seem to get good bounces.

I have no side in this fight but to chalk up an impressive extra record as purely lucky is a bit ridiculous.

It would be the expectation that good teams win more games, extras or not. If the red were 1-9 in extras would you say that’s bad luck or just that they aren’t very good regardless.

Dusty, I present facts. You are here trying to tell people what is good and what is bad luck lmfao. Nobody cares about how your little brain perceives things. People care about facts. Fact is that it’s 2022 not 2021 and as the years are different so are the Braves. They suck this year. They can’t beat anyone good. It’s over. It doesn’t matter if you like it, agree or disagree. It’s facts

So true. And that stopped by the time Glavine got to NY. He had to start throwing inside and showing the curve more because that 6inches off the outside corner didn’t exist anymore.

I think it’s just as ridiculous to call the early 90s Braves lucky as it is to call the 2022 Mets lucky. Every team catches lucky breaks, but people tend to overanalyze when good teams get calls.

this has to be a joke
you pretty much won yesterday due to the umpire giving the braves a bunch of calls.
      Acuna was struck out
Also the last series you won because on a called strike three the Ump gave you a ball which led to a 2 run homer that gave the Braves the W.

You had to at least giggle how once again the umps gave the Mets the call at home plate. Truly amazing.

I don’t care about the Braves at this point. The team showed their colors by doing nothing during the deadline. This does not change the fact that the Mets are not good but are playing better which is what matters. Thank your lucky stars your 300mil Lindor and 40 mil per year pitcher are producing. Buying your way to a ring is something

    Regarding Last Night

    1) I can’t understand why the Mets didn’t pull Walker after his 4 run 1st Inning. It was obvious that he had zilch and why bring him back to start the 2nd inning and allow another 4 runs.
Malpractice allowing him to put the Mets in an 8-0 Hole.

    2) Despite Buck substituting his one trick pony DH’s who have produced, the Mets will not win with this as they are highly exposed with RP changes as happened last night. Vogelbach was subbed due to a LH RP with Canha who although RH has horrible reverse splits against LHP. His AB was horrible and killed a good scoring opportunity. Givens who the Mets obtained from the Cubs looks horrible and they should have given up more to obtain Robertson. How about Trey Mancini who the Astros obtained that the Mets desired? Mets Failed at the Deadline!

    3) Watch out for the Phillies to chase the Wild Card and look for the Braves to catch and pass the Mets.

On cue, here’s the other Mets hater Robrock30 here to tell us why the 1st place Mets aren’t good. First, the Braves are going to overtake the Mets. Now it’s the Phillies. Phillies are 9.5 games out and without Harper. Give it a rest.

        rct,

I am not a Mets hater in fact I have been a huge fan of the ’69, ’73 & ’86 Teams.

Wilpons unfortunately have ruined me regarding the Mets.

This Team with Buck Showalter is impressive but I don’t think they hold a candle to the WS Championship rosters that I grew up with.

        VonPurpleHayes,

I might have to adjust. I watched the Mets sweep the Braves in yesterday’s DH. Buck Showalter has improved the Mets culture. They are well prepared and know the finer details of how to play the Game aggressively and the right way. They have some deep holes in the RP, catching & 3B which may bite them in the postseason but they could overcome and go deep. They look better coached and more intense than the Braves right now.

I like what the Phillies did at the deadline adding Thor, Marsh & Robertson.
