Anyone else remember that 48 MLB guy? He always posted silly team names like the Sacramento Squirrels or the Alabama Incest.

I think its hard to ask if the Royals sold low on Benintendi when he is actually hitting worse than Gallo since putting on the pinstripes and probably doesn’t re-sign next winter

His value at the time of the trade has nothing to do with how he performs after.

True but if Benintendi goes into the same slump before the trade the Royals don’t even get back what they got

I posted this on another thread, but, in view of Mark’s PS predictions, I thought it would be interesting to look at last season’s standings on this date, with the hindsight of how it all turned out.

On 8/6, 2021, the AL division leaders were TB, CHW, and HOU. All of them held on.

The AL WC spots belonged to BOS, and OAK. OAK would fail to make the PS, finishing 6.0 GB the 2nd WC, and the NYYs, 1.5 GB, would tie BOS with 92 wins, and get the 2nd WC.

In the NL, the division leaders were SF, MIL, with the NYMs and PHI tied. SF and MIL held on, but the NYMs would wind up 11.5 GB for the division, 13 GB for the 2nd WC, and PHI would end up 6.5 GB for the division, 8 GB for the 2nd WC, and both would fail to make the PS

The NL WC spots belonged to LAD and SD. LAD easily held on for a WC berth, bur ATL, 6.5 GB on 8/6, took the 2nd WC spot, while SD, wound up 11 GB for the 2nd WC.

Yeah I agree it was lame for him to predict every division leader holding on and do the same for every team in a wc spot now. Way to go on a limb.

so wait … someone asks him HIS OPINION and you think its lame that he gives HIS OPINION? I agree with him n how it is no one made that huge enough jump to change it at the deadline or the division lead is so far ahead it doesnt make a difference

the only thing i think may change is maybe the yanks start showing their over use and the starters start showing their inning limits and maybe drop out of first place but still make the playoffs. You cant assume eddie rosario or in the past a yoenis cespedes sudden torrid play. I’m guessing you are assuming Robinson Cano hits up his steroids and signs with the nationals and they win the world series?

Dude its not the giving an opinion thats lame its the opinion itself thats lame. Is he taking into consideration players recently injured or coming back from injuries? How about strength of schedule past and future? How about callups from the minors? To expect nothing to change for a dozen teams is lame.

That wasn’t really my point, that Mark’s prediction were lame. Since none of us can see into the future, those picks are as good as any.

It was probably the most politic response, since predicting that one or more of the leaders would falter, the fans of those teams would be assaulting him with the “why do you hate the ____s” questions.

I just thought it interesting that teams that look good now may not hold up. I think it’s doubtful the WS winner is games back from a WC like the Braves were, but last season showed that it’s possible.

          @remove

Is he taking into consideration players recently injured or coming back from injuries?

OK im asking you who do you expect recently injured to come back and be a huge difference maker and you only have 2-3 mins to answer. My guess is you think Conforto signs with the white sox comes in mid september then plays way better than he has in years and changes the fortune of the white sox who has the easiest schedule? I dont expect that but i guess in your opinion he might. You have to go with whats in front of you especially when its more lightning round its not an article when he can do some research and check all the teams out.. the only teams that may change is the division leaders and the wild card teams at this point as the only returning players i can see are harper and riley but that would just be flipping leader and wcs … i guess trout can come back as well and the angels win out every game for the rest of the season

How about strength of schedule past and future?

white sox who have done horrible but has the “easiest” schedule all of a sudden click like the braves who came out of no where and not even nostradamus expected that run? Give us your opinion

How about callups from the minors?

which contending team has an impactful prospect that hasnt been called up yet? there is no reason at this point to keep them down unless they are blocked or will not make a significant difference. They are not going to change their service clock any or get them another year of arbitration.

that i understand .. he has a couple of mins to answer a question and he went with the best info he had which is stay the course. It will definitely change and im sure if you asked him for an article where he does research and looks at a few different things it could change. Im thinking maybe maybe last wc may change but thats like picking who ends up in last place in football. it willbe a toss up at the end and will be the “fairy” team in the playoffs if they do win like the braves last year.

Lots can and will happen in the quest for playoff spots in the next 8-1/2 weeks.

    Potentially many surprises coming.

    Best time of the year.

No chance the Red Sox follow the Dodgers way of spending. Henry wants to spend just below the tax threshold with some years slightly over. It’s interesting mark didn’t respond to the Cora question.

What did you expect the WS to do? They have little to no farm and are at about max payroll.
